BBC news says "unconfirmed reports" about an arrest

PestoMonster · 28/06/2007 18:03

Oh God, I do hope that means they've found her or can find her now.

Hulababy · 28/06/2007 18:04

I think if they had already found her, that would have been said.

But yes, if it is confirmed, then I hope that it does mean that they can find her soon.

Translated.

The National Body of Police has stopped in an urbanization from Cadiz an Italian which it suspects that it could be related to the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine MacCann, of whom there are the no news from the 3 of May, according to police sources. The minor was in an apartment of Praia gives Light, in the south of Portugal. The sources informants have refused to facilitate more details of the operation alleging that the investigations are still in a incipiente phase. The news in others webs webs in Spanish in other languages the operation began on the five of the dawn last in a municipality near Algeciras (Cadiz), where at the moment they are agents of the group Antisecuestros of the Unit of Specialized Crimes and Violentos (UDEV). The agents take to hours registering a house, according to a neighbor of the zone. But the police is cautious and rehusa to make specific the suspicions that fall on the arrested Italian citizen. The family of the girl has created a page in Internet, www.findmadeleine.com to collect that could be useful for the finding of the small one. The Portuguese judicial police has refused at any moment to speak officially of kidnapping, although some of their members indicate that it constitutes the main track of the investigation. The parents of the girl asked for aid to the minister of the Spanish Interior, Alfredo Perez-Rubalcaba, weeks ago

BBC news update, all unconfirmed:

Man arrested in Spain
In connection with abduction of Madeleine
Searching flat
Arrest occured yesterday
If it is an arrest, considered a significant step forward

lljkk · 28/06/2007 18:22

I read Spanish and something that didn't come thru in the translation below -- suspect was arrested for suspician of demanding extortion.

Which makes me think he had nothing to do with her disappearance, just thought he could demand a ransom / collect on the award. Scum.

WakeUpCall · 28/06/2007 18:26

A woman arrested too. (Sky news)

lulumama · 28/06/2007 18:27

so not neccesarily anything concrete or important

fryalot · 28/06/2007 18:30

BBC just confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping her.

lulumama · 28/06/2007 18:31

Aloha · 28/06/2007 18:32

WEll, not exactly unspecific or unimportant either!

fryalot · 28/06/2007 18:32

well.... that's it. That is the news. They know nothing else

kiskidee · 28/06/2007 18:36

arrested for attempted extortion / blackmail

not directly for kidnapping

according to el pais

LIZS · 28/06/2007 18:38

even the bbc hasn't got any direct info - "according to reports" could be chinese whispers.

tiredemma · 28/06/2007 18:52

Two Italian men arrested for extortion demand on Madeleines parents.

No suggestion that anyone knows where she is.

gulp · 28/06/2007 20:39

Sky seems to be saying they have been arrested in connection with kidnap if Madeleine.

let's hope if they have tried to extort money, she is still alive and unharmed.

mylastrolo · 28/06/2007 21:18

Oh God please let something positive come of this and maddie is found safe and well .

LIZS · 28/06/2007 21:21

the BBC report suggests there may not even be a direct link,so possibly a scam .

expatinscotland · 28/06/2007 21:22

It's looking like it is a scam, folks, unfortunately.

Brangelina · 28/06/2007 21:23

Italian TV news reported the Italian foreign ministry as stating that there is absolutely no connection with the kidnapping. The man was in fact arrested after an international police warrant was issued for domestic violence.

So probably another red herring alas.

littlemissbossy · 28/06/2007 22:15

according to the BBC the couple were trying to extort money from the McCann's - ba$tards
