So, this smoking ban...when and how does it kick in? Midnight on Saturday? Dong..."OUTSIDE IF YOU'RE SMOKING!! GO ON, OUT YOU GO!"

Or doesn't it start until Sun lunchtime? Or will it be OK to start the ban Sat evening?

I can imagine the occasional bout of fisticuffs in 1 or 2 pubs on Saturday night

Harumph!

Well, that's different then!

Peachy · 29/06/2007 18:31

(not keen on the one I have now mind you but thats another story )

Desiderata · 29/06/2007 18:33

Yes, mine's a bit left field, too.

I intend to be an excellent MIL. Embarrassing, of course, but excellent nonetheless!

Peachy · 29/06/2007 20:49

DH has been instructed to send me abroad for life if I turn into my current MIL!

He will, too. I'll make them!

I used to teach somewhere which had a smoking "area" in the common room. It was a bloody joke. Nearly all the students (adult) and half the staff smoked, and those of us who didn't cowered in the corner with our coffee and went home smelling of smoke. My briefcase is still impregnated with it to this day.

pirategirl · 30/06/2007 00:20

i smoke a few rollies a day, which are not as ponky as normals fags in an enclosed space.
BUT i am glad of the no smoking ban too, wierd maybe, but I smoke so infrequently, that it will be great to go in a pub where you can breathe.

I can understand how non smokers must hate it/us/ smokers. I stink when i come home after a night out.

It will ceratinly make me smoke less on my rare nights out. I see in town, there are a few gazebo type tents springing up next to pubs, for the smokers. Should be interesting.

I am used to smoking outside, in my garden. I wish that adults could be banned form smoking in their houses in front of kiddies who have no choice. How can anyone do that???

edam · 30/06/2007 00:24

My local NHS are the bastards who want Misdee to pay for parking when she has to take Peter into hospital, despite her having a blue badge and all. And they shut down our community hospital, with its ward for elderly and terminally ill people, to save money. And they've cancelled ante-natal classes.

But the buggers can afford to pay teams of people to run up and down the town telling businesses about the smoking ban.

edam · 30/06/2007 00:25

Actually it's probably the council doing the no smoking ban, now I come to think of it. Must go to bed before I get any more daft!

edam · 30/06/2007 00:27

Sorry, just realised the key point, the daft buggers went into the petrol station to tell them not to smoke at work. I think most people who work in petrol stations know all about the dangers of lighting up on the premises...

Peachy · 30/06/2007 11:38

Oh I dunno edam- reveresed rapidly yesterday as I was filling up as the daft cow in front lit up as she filled up! God knows how she survived that!

The ban starts at 6am tomorrow, btw so nights out tobnight are (mostly depneding on your party style I guess!) unaffected

Wisteria · 30/06/2007 11:44

Desi - are you out tonight or working??
I am going out to my sil's hen night (urgh-hate hen nights), I like the sound of your pub, well until tomorrow am anyway!
Going to make the most of it tonight and then invest in some really warm outdoor clothing!

Desiderata · 30/06/2007 19:16

Hi, Wisty. I'm on holiday as from tomorrow (Portugal for a week ... anything to escape the ban ).
