Parents may get to check criminal record of individuals - could include DP/DH

BBC News article

The Home Office proposals I think are intended for parents to check the criminal record of employees they may have who work in a private home - such as nannies, aupairs/mothers helps, cleaners, gardeners, etc.

As an Approved Childcarer I have my criminal record checked annually by SureStart (now Ofsted), and my view is that if parents wish to carry out their own independent check, they should be able to do so. The proposals will make that possible... so I feel it is a good thing.

What are your views?

I think it's a really good idea.

Could have done with something similar when my mum had a new dp, tbh - I know it's not a failsafe, but it would have been reassuring just to get a yes/no response (as long as the person being checked doesn't get to know that you've done it). As it was, I always felt fairly uncomfortable leaving the kids alone with him.
