bbc only report stories that have been doubly confirmed though. sky report all the sensationalist stories they can find - 5 busses were blown up on july 7th donncha know and a suecide bomber was shot in Canary warf too..

Hulababy · 07/06/2007 14:00

I know. That is why I am sceptical. And the story reads very vague anyway.

LIZS · 07/06/2007 14:01

are you suggesting that Sky reports things that may not be true , surely not !!

furReal · 07/06/2007 14:03

Perhaps the call was a ransom demand. Why else would the family be planning to travel back to East Midlands airport to discuss the call with someone?

wannaBe · 07/06/2007 14:04

no no I'm sure that Rupert Murdoch is honest to the core, and that his media empire reflects this.

Marne · 07/06/2007 14:06

Lets just hope and prey that it is'nt a hoax and the little girl is found safe and well.

clumsymum · 07/06/2007 14:09

Oh surely, We shouldn't be told anything about this until the call has come/been verified/she's actually been found.

I really REALLY think that the whole media should just back away now. I don't think the parents should be waving all this at the world in general now either.

wannaBe · 07/06/2007 14:10

24.com

"The situation was so critical that it was felt they could not afford to be out of touch on the plane, even for an hour during the short flight.".

critical? that sounds ve sinister.

Hulababy · 07/06/2007 14:12

I don't blame the aprents for wanting to keep up the publicity though. I am sure if it was my little girl lost out there, somewhere, I'd be wanting the whole world to know about it and to keep knowing about it.

It only gets in the papers/TV if the media want it to, not the parents.

VoluptuaGoodshag · 07/06/2007 14:12

From the Findmadeleine.com website - Her father's blog

"We had to delay our onward flight to Amsterdam because of some information received by the police, which we needed to be consulted on. We diverted to the embassy in Berlin but it turned out to be nothing of interest. We unfortunately had to miss 2 TV programmes as we arrived in Amsterdam 3 hours late, very tired and emotionally drained. We did manage to catch up with a few friends briefly who we know from the year we lived in Amsterdam. They have been actively campaigning here on our behalf with poster distribution, contacting media and liasing with companies to get advertising space for large posters of Madeleine".

layman · 07/06/2007 14:13

on the findmadeleine site Gerry McCann says 'it turned out to be nothing of interest'

wannaBe · 07/06/2007 14:15

ah so hoax then. so why do the media feel the need to report on it.

TaylorsMummy · 07/06/2007 14:15

thats co cruel

Loobyloo22 · 07/06/2007 14:19

Of course they may want to play it down if it is crucial otherwise the caller might be spooked by the media.

cutekids · 07/06/2007 14:20

so sorry!
wish i'd never started this thread now.sorry to get everyone's hopes up/

OP posts:
wannaBe · 07/06/2007 14:25

loobyloo but can't imagine the caller would be reading Gerry Mccann's blog though and not reading the media. tbh it didn't seem credible when I read it considering the caller hadn't re-established contact. i imagine this probably hasn't been the first call - maybe the first that's been reported in the media. maybe the media should just stop reporting on this altogether now.

Iklboo · 07/06/2007 14:27

If it is a hoax I pray they manage to somehow trace the man and nail his scrotum to his head.
Sick barsteward

laneydaye · 07/06/2007 14:28

cutekids dont be sorry.. You are keeping the story up there where it nedds to be. I dont really respond much to these threads because i think a lot of people say things i dont agree with and i get angry, but good on you love.

mogwai · 07/06/2007 14:30

I'm in Australia and it's just been on Ten news about the mystery caller. I got out of bed and switched on the internet (been following the case on the web) but it's unclear. BBC still not reporting it. Doesn't sound hopeful really does it?

Loobyloo22 · 07/06/2007 14:30

Sky have completely removed any talk of this now. Either it is complete nonesense - in which case why isn't GM saying something like 'it was a hoax caller' instead of 'it was nothing'. Maybe they aren't sure and want to get the person back on the phone and by saying 'it was nothing' might anger the person into calling back. Oh I wish it had been really good news.

The media should stop reporting on this now and the McCanns should go back to their other children and let the police do their work. if Madeleine is still alive, which i sincerely doubt, then the police will find her but all this media coverage is doing more harm than good.

NuttyMuffins · 07/06/2007 14:33

Agree with you FurReal.

Loobyloo22 · 07/06/2007 14:35

Doesn't honestly seem like the polica re doing any work. Portuguese police that is. tHEY KEEP SAYING THEY ARE BUT WHERE IS THE PRROF? tHEY HAVEN'T CHECKED 2 SETS OF POSSIBLE cctv footage in time (oops sorry about capital letters!) they didn't followup the credible sighting in morocco. They have botched up DNA samples, failed to secure the crime scene, failed to report Madeleine as missing to border police within 15 hours. I am sorry but they seem bloody ridiculous, we can complain about our police but in fact they are probably some of the best in the world.

mogwai · 07/06/2007 14:36

Well if it was real it was stupid to broadcast it. I always think that about crimewatch when they say "we've had good information about where this man is right now and police are on their way around"

I mean, you'd hardly sit there waiting to be found would you?
