Trafficking in Women for Prostitution in London

Has anyone else been upset and shocked today to read about the Poppy Project's report? I went to the website www.poppyproject.org and found the information very disturbing. I also sent an email letter to the Chairman of the Prudential group as part of the Lilith campaign which is on the website, complaining that Prudential is leasing premises to Spearmint Rhino, which are continually being investigated for prostitution, and since the club opened the rape statistics have doubled in Camden.

Thanks for posting this, TurnAgainCat. I find this whole subject really upsetting - can't bear the fact that there are so many women and girls suffering so much, just hidden out of sight. Also that so many 'normal' men must be participating in their abuse. I'd love to help in some way and will follow up the websites you have cited.

Had an argument with someone about this on another site, who more or less said it didn't matter, as they are only women anyway. The viciousness of mysogyny is quite frightening sometimes.

As far as I know, it was a man. He didn't actually say "they're only women", but he said things like if they were so "stupid" as to be duped into being prostitutes, or to get addicted to drugs (discussion not just about the Eastern European women who become prostitutes, but also about young British women who get taken up by a "boyfriend" who then turns into a pimp) then serves them right for being beaten up and raped every day. It was a surreal discussion really, which in the end I gave up on because I decided that either he was a troll or a lunatic - he actually said that my whole argument was based on hating men - as if objecting to men raping and beating women makes you a ranting man-hater!
