Given how bad that stretch of the M25 is, i wonder how it will cope with the extra traffic? The area around heathrow is under going huge road works and closures for HS2 and crossrail, so now its going to have years of this as well.
I can see the theory that it will ease stacking etc, but surely thats only temporary it won't be long until that 3rd runway is ramped up to full capacity and its stacking for the 3rd runway.

When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money

What extra traffic ? We're all supposed to be using public transport, remember ? Hence all the measures deliberately put in place to slow private car journeys down. And that's before you factor in the artificial low speed limits to try and reduce emissions and (more) EU fines.

Is that so we can all fly out in the years post Brexit

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2018 14:08

And how is a new runway going to do that differently than the old runways or a runway in a different airport?

There’s no post Brexit magic H3 can do.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2018 14:10

We’re not supposed to be using it, Rossetti.

It’s mostly build for the the benefit of transit passengers. It’s a hub, we only get the fumes and noise and the bill.

GhostsToMonsoon · 06/06/2018 14:11

With this and HS2, I feel like the whole country is disappearing under concrete for dubious economic benefits.

Who is old enough to remember the promise of teleworking ?

Not only do we decidedly not have it. In general it's waning anyway.

I just don't know how or why the government are pushing this stuff through? HS2 will have huge consequences, but yet despite that and the huge expense its going through. How? Why? I just don't understand
I don't understand how the government can just come along and ruin lives, businesses, homes, rip families apart. If you own your home or business you get compensation but if you rent it you are screwed. Farmers who have rented their land for years, are just being evicted. Where are they meant to go? What are they meant to do?
Listed homes, demolished. Either they are important enough to protect or they aren't. The same with trees with preservation orders and ancient woodlands, either they are important or they aren't. It makes no sense.
I do not believe for one second HS2 or the third runway is for the greater good.

Greater good would be funding more research and putting more protection into bees after all they are responsible for most of the food on our plate. Being able to get to Birmingham 20 minutes quicker from london for a huge amount of money, not so much. Being able to have more flights in and out of Heathrow, again, not so much.

It's a disaster. Today I saw a big poster up about air quality affecting children (un airport related), yet our Council have previously said they will support it because of jobs! Yet the people who work in those jobs are the people who are going to be living in this noise and polluted air. It is just a nonsense.

And what makes it worse it that every survey is slanted towards agreeing with the third runway. As in...do you think that jobs are important to this area yes slightly yes, neutral slightly no no. What sort of question is that????? why would anyone say no? ditto do you agree that airplanes should be new eco models blah blah blah yes slightly yes no slightly no, no. And then they use it to support the third runway, everyone agrees we should have one, of course with eco planes fudge fudge

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2018 20:25

Write to them and write to your MP. Ask friends and family to write as well.

It's worth keeping the pressure up.

LimboLuna · 06/06/2018 21:49

Yes that survey was bullshit wasn’t it. It was closing Heathrow vs a 3rd runway.
It supports so many jobs and livelihoods directly and indirectly. But I can’t agree to expanding it.

I can’t even get past the Rottweiler assistant to talk to our mp.
