I've watched the first one so far and you've convinced me. I was shocked to see healthcare workers promoting the formula in the way they did - and a two year old still on formula? What's that all about?

hunkermunker · 18/05/2007 22:27

Keep watching...it doesn't stop being shocking...

There's a petition to sign - I'll link in a mo.

"In exchange for promoting milk products, they're given incentives"

Do you think the health centre employee here is talking about reps for formula companies or midwives?

I'll give you a clue. It's midwives

Yep I've seen the second one now. All those poor mothers believing what they're told in the television ads. So so sad.

hunkermunker · 18/05/2007 22:32

I'll give you some of the highlights on the thread.

Formula reps/healthcare workers (including midwives and doctors) promoting formula heavily to women.

TV advertising saying that formula is "the best milk for babies".

Formula companies buying air conditioning units and airfares for doctors who promote their products.

Women being told that expensive formula is better for their babies than the cheap stuff.

Women being sent home from hospital with day-old newborns and formula promotional packs - by their midwives.

My link keeps jumping, but I can imagine what's onthere

There is a Baby Milk Action protest outside Nestle HQ in sunny Croydon at 11am tomorrow, btw...

hunkermunker · 18/05/2007 22:38

Have just thought - if they get women to bottlefeed, there's not the contraceptive protection often afforded by exclusively breastfeeding, or, in some women, breastfeeding at all.

So there'll be more babies having formula as well. Nice little extra bonus, that.

And people wonder why I hate formula manufacturers?!

I'll be there in spirit, Snaf - I'm working tomorrow. Is Croydon station still sponsored by the fuckers?

OP posts:
Snaf · 18/05/2007 22:44

It is indeed. "East Croydon - home of Nestle".

It's surprising how often a bit of mindless vanddalism appeals to me when waiting for a train

taffy101 · 18/05/2007 22:48

just signed petition. i did wonder if nestle were still up to their old tricks

Twinklemegan · 18/05/2007 22:51

Well I've watched all five clips and signed the petition. It made pretty uncomfortable watching.

Malaleche · 18/05/2007 23:07

have signed petition

hunkermunker · 18/05/2007 23:38

I think I'll start a "please sign this petition" thread, actually, since there aren't many of us on this one!

Quite a lot to wade through, those links. But worth it
