constipation and poo smearing

DS1 has been constipated the last couple of days. This means he has decided to stand up and poo on the floor (when I'm not there). He then smears it everywhere (I think just trying to get rid of it rather than for sensory reasons).

Anyway I need constipation cures urgently- am trying to make sure he drinks plenty- anything else? He won't take tablets and his diet is appalling (won't eat any fruit or veg at the moment) so it would need to be liquid- or something that can be sneaked into a drink.

dd gets constipation quite a lot. If you use lactulose then also give lots of water. I sometimes give her syrup of fig in her drink (from chemist) which seems to do the trick. If things get really bad you can get glycerin suppositories to stick up their bum (not pleasant!)

JimJams, I remember my mum trying glycerine suppositries for me. I hated it, felt very upset by the performance of it, and as I was sooo uncomfortable it just made things worse. so as a former victim I wouldn't reccommend it.

You're right Easy, they are not nice. Only used them on dd when she was a baby. Now I think of it, trying to get one into an older child with more idea of what is going on would be hell for everyone.

TBH thinking about it I'm now not usre its constipation as such. This is going to be revolting so do stop reading now- but since starting with the supplements he's done one very big poo a day- very cleanly. Now all of a sudden he does a large but smaller poo (in the toilet) once a day and then lots of sticky bits and it's these he struggles with and these are the ones that end up on the floor (he doesn't tell me when he's going). They are very sticky- so I guess it may not be constipation as such. I'm running out of cod liver oil so I think I will give his nutritionist a call next week.

Thanks for all the advice though. Only one episode today so improving....
