Can Angela Merkel win another term? What do Germans think about the progress of Brexit negotiations so far? What line do Germans think should be taken on economic migrants and refugees and how they might help Mediterranean countries deal with them? My German is not up to reading politics and papers in German, so I invite those who take an interest, from left and right, East and West, to shed some light.

A YouGov poll that was published yesterday, which includes Zweitstimmen, predicts CDU/CSU 36%, SPD 25%, Die Linke 10%, Grüne 6%, FDP 7%, AfD 12% und Sonstige 4%

In the likely case of a CSU/CDU/SPD coaltion that would make the AfD the largest opposition party.

OP again. Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the weeks; I've enjoyed reading all your posts.

Fairly sure Frau Merkel will be returned to power and optimistic that in doing so, it will give all of Europe a bit of a respite from election fever for a few months. There have been a few too many this year, not all of them necessary -looking at you, Theresa May-.

That's it, polling stations closed 12 min ago.
Spiegel says, exit poll I assume, SPD at 20%, lowest ever results and the AfD at 13.5%

I'm in Germany and just watching the election coverage on tv now (my citizenship application is in so couldn't vote this time!) very disappointed and a bit worried tbh that the AfD did so well. It was clear that the SPD wasn't going to come close enough to the CDU to cause an upset but at least they will not join a coalition so that they will be the largest opposition party and not leave that over to the AfD.
