Too much foul language and swearing apparently. I'm not surprised - I don't feel comfortable about the language used by some posters. Can we not have a civilised discussion any more?

This is not the right opinion and will make me look like an old prude, but I don't like all the swearing. I also hate the use of the word cunt. I am in the "it's not big and it's not clever" school of thought. Usually I ignore it, but this thread is specifically about swearing on MN.

I don't mind swearing.

I hate, hate, hate the use of cunt as a swear word, and I genuinely can't understand why women use it.

I fucking hate swearing. It's really only used by lazy cunts who can't be bloody arsed to write fucking properly.

Twats.

Did you miss the long thread this weekend, on which MN commented?

Including that they have lost no advertisers. And have no intention of changing the ethos of the site.

Also, the site goes by the FB strapline of 'the one with the swearing' so people really ought to realise that there will be swearing.

There are plenty of sites which don't permit swearing, so those people who don't like it have plenty of places where they can hang out without encountering it.

Duh... inarticulate, trying to be witty.

I believe Netmums don't allow swearing, so perhaps those of you who hate it so much should go over there?

Mumsnet has always been a place where posters can swear as much as they like (as long as it's not part of a personal attack on another poster).

Actually, most posters don't swear that often. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with it when they do. This is a site for adults.

MN has positively taught me to use a defiant 'cunt' - in the spirit of reclaiming the word

I'd never, every use it as a swear word in RL - 'dick' is very satisfying to say, as in 'My computer is a right dick'. It explains a lot about IT problems, I find.
