The former Conservative MP Matthew Parris believes the Conservatives are criminally incompetent:

Paywall.

You, as an OP, are incompetent ;)

DancingLedge · 29/07/2017 20:13

It's behind a paywall.
Hardly surprising- even if you're someone who thinks Brexit is a good idea, hard to see how you'd be happy with how things are being done.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 20:14

Firewall. However I would certainly agree they are spectacularly inept. The sad thing is I cant see anyone else doing any better. I think our politician's and those in Europe are essentially managing their countries on behalf of big business and have no actual idea or indeed principles.

WhollyFather · 29/07/2017 20:22

Parris hasn't been an MP for over 20 years and achieved nothing whilst he was in Parliament. You can enjoy his frequent drivelling attacks on Brexit for nothing in the Spectator, so long as you clear your browsing history every couple of reads.

He is a committed remainer who does not believe in democracy. There's really nothing more to say about him.

Agree with every word. But of course left wingers/remainers who can't seem to get over whining about the referendum will hang on to every word as gospel regardless. I personally wouldn't give him room to write on my loo roll.

YTho · 30/07/2017 10:50

Can't see the article, but I certainly haven't seen/heard of any positive, efficient decisions from conservatives in a long time (ever?) since they were voted in. I wish they had a more prominent and stronger voice for their centrist MPs. I wish one of them would replace May soon and then perhaps UK might not be quite so doomed although I don't see how the damage they caused can ever be repaired.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 30/07/2017 10:52

I love Matthew Paris but he's always been an "independent thinker"/"loose cannon". I don't think his views, however correct, hold any special weight.

Fresh8008 · 30/07/2017 13:07

What is this story about? Is it just a rabid 'remoaner' spouting off because he doesn't like us democratically leaving the EU?

EmeraldIsle100 · 30/07/2017 13:12

He has put into words what I have been thinking for the last few years. David Cameron, really?

QuentinSummers · 30/07/2017 13:16

Can't believe what he's said is being dismissed as "remoaning".
He said he was ashamed to be Conservative, as someone who's spent his life as a Conservative MP that must be a horrible feeling. I think it's more to do with how shambolic the government is in every regard than specifically Brexit

rogueantimatter · 30/07/2017 13:22

It's about the fact that the conservative party gambled that holding a ref would result in a vote to remain in the EU, did nothing to prepare for the possibility of a vote to leave, then voted to trigger article 50 despite apparently having no consensus on the conditions we would like or how to go about getting them.

I agree, it's scandalous.

If this was a plc they'd all have been sacked surely.

MissBabbs · 30/07/2017 13:46

I always think it must be really hard to come up with a weekly topic for a newspaper.
If you don't produce a bit of controversy and interest regularly you will probably lose your job. So I don't really take a lot of articles seriously.

I find it hard to believe no one is doing anything regarding Brexit - presumably there is lots going on behind closed doors - civil service, banks, farming lobbies etc........ we will see in time.

Fresh8008 · 30/07/2017 15:03

There are lots of people who air their Brexit angst just to sell a few newspapers. I think the real scandal is how we ever ended up so deep in the EU without a vote. I remember every party promising it at one time or another. Now we know what people really think we can get back to being a democratic country.

QuentinSummers · 30/07/2017 15:42

Now we know what people really think we can get back to being a democratic country.
We don't know what people "really think". And we always were a democratic country.

Its because if you criticise the CURRENT tory government it makes you a lefty, democracy hating remainer

Tots obvs

Talk about making things up. He is moaning about the UK not remaining in the UK. Its not big conspiracy, Matthew is just having a good old fashioned 'moan'.

Fresh8008 · 30/07/2017 19:30

UK not remaining in the UK. Obviously meant in the EU

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/07/2017 19:39

Havent made anything up fresh

I have seen it on a number of threads

And no I'm not going to link...Smile

It was your remoaner comment ...i assumed you mean remoaner in the brexit way

QuentinSummers · 30/07/2017 20:20

Someone's added a photo of the article in the OP here

fresh are you pleased with how the Conservatives are handling Brexit? I think it's absolutely shambolic personally

Fresh8008 · 30/07/2017 22:46

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 Sorry no way to know you were actually replying to comments somewhere else on the internet. Perhaps you should reference them?

are you pleased with how the Conservatives are handling Brexit? I am not pleased or displeased. I have nothing to compare it to. i suspect it would go no better nor worse no matter who was doing it!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/07/2017 22:57

fresh

I tend to address posts to the person i am replying to

But I appreciate that that has obviously caused some confusion

Fresh8008 · 30/07/2017 23:02

Yes its hard given the article is unreadable.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/07/2017 23:02
