NHS staff hit with massive parking fines

This is in Wales' biggest hospital.

The Welsh Assembly abolished hospital parking charges, but the UHW is under a contract still. Staff are handing their notices in and one nurse says she will have to sell her house to pay the fines.

There are 6,000 staff but only 1,800 staff parking spaces. It they use a visitor space they get a ticket.

A judge ruled that staff have to pay £128 per ticket issued.

This is my local hospital. I am wondering if the Welsh Assembly will step in.

So up to 8000 staff use it and yet only 2500 spaces at 1.05 a day for them if you don't get your space there you pay the full commercial rate which is much bigger and if you don't pay that then you have to pay massive fines! The parking company wrote of all the fines - loads of them to give everyone a clean sweep in about 2016 and said from now on if you over park you pay just £10. It is those latter fines I believe which are being argued over now as staff are still not paying the £10 if they cannot find a £1.05 staff space.

One pregnant nurse is cycling to work I read today to avoid paying to park (I cycled when in labour just for 5 mins from the tube station but it is certainly not a good idea).

One doctor arrived at 3am to save someone's life, got back to his car at 6am and had a fine.

Agree with lougle. They gambled. They lost.

They broke the rules but in my opinion justifiably. They work unsociable hours doing a vital job and common sense should prevail.they should all take a mass stand an refuse to pay. Its the rule that is the problem here not the Staff.
