Seemingly, the UK did not receive votes from Ireland in last night's Eurovision.

Well, shortly after Nicky Byrne had informed the contest last night that Ireland’s 12 points had gone to Belgium, the charming response from Conservative Party councillor Nick Harrington on Twitter was:
“#Eurovision2017 thanks Ireland. You can keep your f’king gypsies! Hard border coming folks!”

This has been newspaper headlines in Ireland today.

The Conservatives really know how to make friends and influence people coming into Brexit negotiations.

If you regard the Daily Mirror as an unbiased source then more fool you. A similar list could be produced about Labour's problems with anti-Semitism and misogyny. I note that the Daily Mirror list includes a number of individuals who were expelled and others who don't appear on this list have also been expelled.

Is racism so endemic in the Tory ranks?

There is still a significant amount of anti-Irish feeling in the Conservative Party. Not exclusively there of course, but probably more than in other parties. I recently saw an interview with Patrick Mercer Tory MP where he had very great difficulty acknowledging the murder of 13 innocent civilians by the Parachute regiment in Derry in the 70s.

Nigel Farage called the Northern Ireland peace process utterly loathsome.
