Garden bridge cancelled

This is such good news. It was nothing more than a ridiculous vanity project/corporate entertainment piece of nonsense that seriously threatened to muck up one of the most glorious view in London. Only an idiot like Boris Johnson would ever have thought it was worth committing public money to it.

I'm not averse to new bridges on the Thames but they need to be where they are needed and perform a useful function in terms of transport.

Meanwhile, it becomes harder and harder to cross the river in east London, where two more river crossings are planned. (Incidentally, another Theo Usherwood exclusive is that those crossings have rocketed in price, from £250m to £1bn so that a handful of Russian oligarchs can sail their luxury yachts to St Katherine's Dock).

They should have built it in Thurrock, they need a new crossing and nothing could make that area look worse than it does.

Can't they just shuzz one of the other bridges up.

Even Londoners said it was a stupid idea, and they know where the crossings are. In a city where people do actually use their feet, this was unnecessary even without the damage.

I know what that wasted money could have done in my area. That's the last time I watch anything Joanna Lumley does.

It also wasn't really a crossing as it would be privately owned and could be shut for functions (and I believe private security who could remove you if you didn't fit in).

It would have been a tourist attraction / corporate moneymaker of no use to locals at all. I'd infinitely rather have the existing plane trees and a new crossing somewhere that actually needs one.
