i think that forcing him to get a vasectomy is a hyuuuuuge infringement of his rights. poor devils. and the fact that their kids keep getting taken away from them seems most unfair. am i being completely wrong-headed, surely if they're not doing any harm to anyone... or are their children really likely to come out with six toes on each foot?

No way would I sh@g my brother - he smells like he needs a damn good bath (and his wife might object anyway).

Bit of a sad situation, really, and probably isn't allowed with good reason, but you can't stop people loving each other, can you?

I think its more common that you would realise for siblings who have not been raised together to develop a romantic/physical involvement. I did hear the % in relation to this story I dont know if anyone else can remember what it was. I have known of one case personally - its just its not something which generally comes up in "polite" conversation is it!

Personally I couldnt waste the time getting upset about it there are far more people who SHOULD be in prison but dont go...so this seems a bit heavy handed to me. I can TOTALLY understand the reasons for it being illegal though as the chances of any offspring having genetic abnormalities is much higher - so I guess if they wanted to go there the answer is they shouldnt have had children as they are the innocent victims of this really.

THing is (and I definitely don't mean to insult ANYONE in ANY WAY here) kids can be born prematurely, develop epilepsy and have learning difficulties for a huge variety of reasons which are not all genetic. So I think that the implications of this couple's offspring being damaged because of their sibling relationship are a bit rocky. Of course, it may have had an effect, but it may equally well not have had anything to do with it.

Slightly OT - I do remember reading that when people trace a blood relative that they did not have any contact with in childhood, a sexual relationship often either develops or is at least fantasized about, because this person feels like someone more special than anyone else when you first meet them, and we are all sold so hard on the idea that such "special" feelings must mean couple-love rather than anything else.
