Sorry - can't link, but there's an article on the Independent website. The over processed palm oil is apparently carcinogenic.

Blimey!

It's full of palm oil and sugar, stopped buying it a long time ago.
M&S have a lovely olive oil chocolate spread, hope they keep selling it.

RockyBird · 18/01/2017 09:37

Asda are about to start stocking a palm oil free choc spread. Unfortunately I've forgotten the name of it

It came up on my social media the other day. It also has much less, if any, sugar so is under half the calories (the slimming worlders were asking)

Rumtopf · 18/01/2017 09:37

Thanks for that link Gooseberry

We try and avoid palm oil wherever possible, I can't stomach the environmental impact.

SILfoundmyusername · 18/01/2017 09:41

Well that Ferraro post didn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy about palm oil, quite the opposite effect.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/01/2017 10:06

I agree SIL (I am aghast at your username btw - did she?!)

As a PR exercise that was poor. Basicallysaying "We comply with all the regulations" isn't exactly warm and fuzzy as you say

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 18/01/2017 12:16

BitOutOfPractice, no it's not always "palm oil".

It can be named "vegetable oil" and lots of other things.
Someone posted a long list, but I can;t find it now.
Very often it's hidden in the ingredients list.

Also, look out for it in cosmetics, face and body care products,

I'm thinking of making my own.

Chocolate spread, not palm oil, that is.

AmericanPastoral · 25/01/2017 11:09

Thanks Chardonnay for that recipe. I look forward to trying it.

Whole Earth nut butters are palm oil free as are the Meridian ones www.meridianfoods.co.uk/Products

AmericanPastoral · 25/01/2017 11:12

This recipe also looks good.

I must confess my earlier comment about Nutella eaters having their mind put at rest by the ferraro statement was rather tongue in cheek. I found this on Youtube, it's obvious some has been CGI'd but the message holds good I think.
