When I hear of abuses like this i always wonder what went wrong in that adult's life to make them think that's ok. I just can't get my head around it. In this day and age of internet and social media there really is no way they can have missed the message that that is abusive. Those poor babies. This will mean they are removed permanently hopefully?

It's Belgium, so I'm unsure if they'll be removed permanently. They weren't registered for school, and perhaps the adults don't have (the mandatory) ID cards for the kids to have slipped through the net and are here illegally.

The mother is French (as is the biological father of the twins). The step father seems to be a member of a Christian sect - there is nothing in the press coverage to indicate his nationality or his immigration status.

And since scaryteacher lives in Belgium she can presumably read the local press in which it has been made clear that both the kids and the mum are French and therefore not "illegals" at all.

And the father is Belgian, according to the French language press on the 29th (day before scaryteacher posted). Which makes the comments about the parents being present in Belgium illegally even more bizarre.

For crying out loud, scaryteacher was simply offering one explanation for them not being better protected by the system, because it appears they aren't in the system, the most likely reason not to be in the system of the country that you live in that you are there illegally. Get a grip.

The important things here are two small, neglected, abused children. Who I hope survive & find a home with a loving family. It's not a given in the U.K. and I've no idea what the chances if that are like in Belgium. Poor little mites.

Mistigri There are many people in Belgium who are EU nationals who have not registered with their Gemeente/ Commune, because they are here to work in the still thriving black economy. Perhaps you might like to do some research on that before you start casting aspersions in my direction? There are equally many landlords here who are less than scrupulous in demanding to see ID when they let property. There are also a lot of people here illegally as well, or who over stay their visas, Albanians for example.

The fact the kids weren't registered for school, which would require proof of residence and registration afaik at the Gemeente by the parents, led to the comment that perhaps they hadn't registered, and it is compulsory to do so here if you are staying for longer than three months, whether you are from another EU member state or not.
