As a resident who has attended numerous BAA consultations, proposals and town meetings, I can tell you that most of the residents are absolutely against. Attendance to these meetings are always high and spirits and emotions are certainly not curtailed.

Would anyone in their right mind agree to live in an area of high pollution (set to get much higher), double the noise pollution and worsening traffic congestion? Not to mention falling house prices. No! Its ignorant to believe that the residents would be for it, I'm looking at you BBC news.

Is it that wretched questionnaire they sent that only had boxes to support the runway?

CateGory8 · 27/10/2016 21:01

One of the BAA consultations was planned and actually went ahead during the terrible SE floods, our village was partially flooded and no one could attend. BAA counted that as a win from their point of view.

I've received several BAA questionnaires over the last 5 years and the questions are worded in really open, leading and ambiguous way.

Do you want to live in an area of high employment and job security?
Do you want easier access to the rest of the world?
Do you want cheaper flight costs?

Answering yes to any of these will constitute supporting the expansion. BAA and the government think we are all dumb fools.

I'm so glad I'm in the NW, London doesn't sound very appealing.
I feel sorry for all those who have no choice but to live there.
But maybe this is another way of trying to get people to move out of the area. I'm sure it will end up as a business centre with nobody actually living there.

But maybe this is another way of trying to get people to move out of the area
what? out of the whole of SW, NW and West London?

I think it is a really bad decision.

It changes nothing, And indeed makes many bad things worse.

Imagine if you will trying to build an airport the size of Gatwick next to Heathrow? How do you get the passengers in and out on the already overloaded M25, M4 and M3? How do you find space for the car parking? Where are the cars to go? What about the support industries that develop all round an airport? That is in effect what will happen.

On top of that an extra runway at Heathrow does not allow for 24 hour operations.. I know 24 hour is unpopular, but the world id global and people come to London from all over the world. More aircraft at Heathslow will not make access to the rest of the country easier.

A more efficient option would be a second runway at Stansted.. (And I do live near Stansted!!) with a new road West towards Milton Keynes and a third crossing into Kent somewhere near Southend.

Ready for thee incoming.

We live in Central London and are badly affected by plane noise.
The flight path follows the Thames, over Parliament, Vauxhall, Battersea, Wandsworth, Chelsea, Fulham, Putney etc.. Planes start landingvcirca 4am. We cannot watch TV with windows open as the aircraft noises are too much. Right now, I can see and hear them every 30 seconds. We get black grits on the balcony due to the pollution emitted from the sky..

Did anyone listen to Zac Goldsmith on LBC today?
He addressed the lobbying issue quite robustly.

Yesterday afternoon, we set put to visit someone in Wokingham from Essex. We left at 2:40. Even leaving thqt early the north side of the M25 was blocked solid on account of a minor shunt.. It added an hour to a two hour trip..Then we just avoided the tailbacks from another small shunt on the M4.

The road network is hopelessly overloaded even as of now... How will people get to the new airport, for that is what it is a whole new airport, when you can't get to the existing one.

A new airport next to Heathslow would need another M25 and M4 to service it... Where is the space going to come from to build the car parks.. look around Gatwick and Sstead... Or will we simply say the west of London is going to become a no go zone on account of the traffic jams.

Reviving this thread as the consultation is out and I've just come on here to get the low down as I'm finding it predictably impenetrable...any advice?
