Vicky Foxcroft's speech in Parliament today - one of the bravest things I've ever seen

She talked about losing her daughter at five days old after she was starved of oxygen at birth. Ms Foxcroft was 16 and it was an unplanned pregnancy which resulted in a much wanted and loved baby.
23 years of loss and you can see how hard she had to fight to keep on her feet speaking about this. So brave. What an incredibly important debate, I would just like to have seen more people in the chamber to hear it.

Of course she is. I never said she was the only brave parent who had suffered loss.
If you watch her speech though you will see she has struggled to talk even to her friends about her loss and today she managed to speak in the UK Parliament about it. I think that is hugely impressive.

I don't really know why you appear to have a problem with this anon. Recognising the superb behaviour of one woman doesn't diminish anybody else. Have you actually watched her speech?

I agree with you, northernlurker.

It's a very big thing to talk about something so personal and human in parliament. It was a big step when a handful of MPs talked abotut their experience of depression, a few years ago - yes, something as commonplace as depression and mental health issues. Talking honestly about something as painful as the loss, as a mother, of an infant child (even without the added scenario of being a very young mother) is a very big thing because all the heartache which makes us human is so frequently ignored in those chambers.

I also agree with you, Northernlurker. Was chatting to some friends about the still taboo nature of baby loss and one claimed that because she spoke freely about her miscarriage and so did another friend, things have changed. Agree they have BUT there is still silence for some people and this is why Vicky's speech was so powerful and important.
