Forward or backward facing, do we talk enough to our bairns?

My dS became very upset whilst facing me in his buggy, so i switched.

(DH said this was perfectly understandable - there's a whole world to explore).

What's your preference?

There was a piece about this in yesterday's Times. I have always had mine facing me - loved chatting to them.

I haven't had a rearward facing buggy since ds was small but would have definitely preferred it (I didn't get one as they are too heavy for going on the bus etc) - would personally have rather been able to talk to him.

CountTo10 · 04/02/2007 20:35

ds faces outwards so that he can see what I see and we chatter whilst we wander looking out for particular things and talking about where we are going and what we are seeing! When he was a baby though i had him facing inwards so i could see that he was ok. I think you have to do what works for your own situation.

Frankly, I think most people should turf their children out of the buggy earlier than they do, in any case. So any incentive to get them out and then walk along talking to them is IMO to be encouraged.

I would have faced her away from me. Your DH is right there is so much to see.

funnypeculiar · 04/02/2007 21:28

my los face/d outwards ... and we still talked (ds doesn't shut up...)

Aloha · 04/02/2007 21:29

I had to put my dd in a front facing one when she was nearly dislocating her neck peering round to face where she was going. She had very little interest in my conversation tbh
Oh, and she was a about five-six months old at this stage!

Dd was always facing me and so was ds until he got big enough to start kicking dd while she was on the buggy board!

misdee · 04/02/2007 23:23

dd3 get arsey if she cant see me. but i have two other dd's who hold onto the buggy so she cant see them to chat to if she is forward facing. so its rear facing for us.

I have mine facing out. Excuse me while I pour bleach in my eyes as a penance.
