Pensioners are frightened to go out at night to the bingo thanks to Devon's new 'lights out ' policy to combat 'global warming'.

Are they planning to give council taxpayers a rebate or reduction of rates for the decrease in services?

Nah, I didn't think so!

Same as when they go to fortnightly collections in the name of the enviroment.

Another con.

People are deluding themselves if they believe any of these reductions in services or 'green' taxes are for any other reason but more money in the government's coffers.

From the original link:

My italics.

I have heard of councils doing this, but after midnight, not at 8.30pm - anybody got proof???

expatinscotland · 20/03/2008 23:59

there are no streetlights here.

but the council tax is far cheaper than we were paying in Edinburgh.

oh for gods sake, the world is going mad on this farkin 'global warming' tripe.

the world has warmed up and cooled down for millenia, and we had nothing to do with the last lot as we weren;t even here......twas still the dinosaurs in residence then and forgive me, but I don;t recall reading anywhere that they had street lights, hairspray, petrol, plastic bags etc to cause all this hell that we are supposedly doing to our planet to cause this..........

now, plastic bags I agree are evil and should be banned, not least because of the effect on wildlife etc, but the fact that we alone are the cause of global warming is IMHO, a very arrogant view of ourselves considering that, in the worlds terms, we have been here mere seconds!!!!

sooooooo.....devon.....switch those lights on and help those little old ladies find their way home again after their weekly fun night out

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 00:01

and if it has already gone into this warming period, trust me, folks, there isn't a lot we can do about it.

WendyWeber · 21/03/2008 00:08

Here you go - trials in Hampshire, Essex & other home counties.

Not Devon, then

Put out that light...
