I'd never heard of this disease being carried by ticks in parts of Europe before. Makes Lyme disease sound trivial.

Oh God, that sounds awful the poor man. We live in an area with a lot of deer and sheep and I worry about the children getting bitten. We have a cat too although we treat her with a spot on every month.

The nurse who was treating him contracted it and others are being monitored. Hoping she recovers. Most worrying how it can be spread from person to person and not just through a bite.
