Does anyone else follow this story?

I'm puzzled as to why it can take up to 90 days for him to be released though.

foof yes the insinuation was that. He was due to get something like 17 million dollars and 2 days before the payout they charged him, so the payment was cancelled.

I also feel for the family and friends of Teresa Halbach, who still don't have answers about who murdered her.

The stress his mother went through. branden's case was the most awful thing to watch in that whole series. Dp and I were sick watching those interviews by the police. The injustice was just soooo upsetting. So glad he has something positive happen now and hope he can make a good life for himself with his family.

Really glad to hear this. My thoughts toward Avery are unclear still, I believe there was evidence against Avery unrelated to Dassey but his confession sort of accelerated everything.

Either way, this poor kid was led - it was some of the most inhumane policing I have ever seen and I've seen a lot! Just what possessed the officers knowing full well it was on camera baffles me to this day.

It is such a compelling case. There have been many published theories from professionals and the everyday man on the internet it almost makes it even more confusing.

I have one or two theories but I'm not sure if I would be shocked by whatever the truth really was, even if it was someone we were completely unaware of.

omri · 13/08/2016 08:50

I agree chachacha.
And to have made their daughter's murder into an international tv series must be quite excruciating for them

Roussette · 13/08/2016 08:53

This is such good news but isn't he being released because of the way the questioning of him was handled, not a declaration of innocence, so will this always hang over his head?

Personally, I am really not sure on Steven but I also felt Brendan was just set up and didn't deserve to be in prison.

That's ten years of his life he will never get back. Let's hope he can come out and somehow make a life for himself

Hopefully this means Avery's conviction will go through a retrial!!

sleepyhead · 13/08/2016 08:59

They didn't use Dassey's "confession" in the Avery trial - in fact the prosecution 's case was that he acted alone.

Which made it all the more incredible that following Avery's conviction they went ahead and prosecuted Dassey using a completely different story.

I'm also in two minds about Avery (although I don't think his trial was fair or his conviction safe), but I don't believe for a minute that Dassey had anything to do with it.

He'd have shopped Avery in a minute if he had imo.

Freshprincess · 13/08/2016 09:27

Sleepyhead - I'd forgotten that they were tried separately.

I can't make my mind up about Avery either.

I don't know whether he did it and they planted the evidence to help the conviction, or whether it was a complete set up from the off.

FoofFighter · 13/08/2016 13:20

Agree I can't make up my mind about Avery either, but that was certainly not a fair trial at all. Far too many things left out that the TV show brought to attention, like the car keys only appearing on the 8th/9th I think it was search of SA bedroom... just after people who were not supposed to be there as they were involved in the previous miscarriage of justice, were there.

Very glad to hear this. I hope when all this is done and Brendan is free they will have an independent enquiry, or whatever the equivalent is in the US, into how this happened in the first place.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 13/08/2016 19:46

I'm so relieved that his conviction has been overturned.

I hope he gets as far away from that backwards, corrupt community as quickly as he can. Horrendous how they were both treated by the police and authorities.
