There will not be all the FB shows of solidarity for Turkey as there have been for other recent atrocities.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/06/2016 09:53

I think I'd missed that post or blanked it out.

Have very close family living in Istanbul who use that airport all the time. Got the fright of my life last night, so I may not be seeing things very clearly.

MaisieDotes · 29/06/2016 09:58

I'm sickened by this. I've been through this airport many times.

mupperoon · 29/06/2016 10:03

I love Istanbul, have worked there and gone for pleasure. I feel so sorry for all those affected.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 29/06/2016 10:06

Another horrific attack by an evil group of people. No more or less tragic & appalling than any other terrorist attack.

We have been to Turkey. The vast majority of people are as you would expect - normal, law abiding, friendly, everyday folk who have the same terror of and hatred for IS as we do. It saddens me that so many people are so against Turkish people in general being able to enter the UK freely, just because a tiny minority of their population are sadistic murderers.

As we all know, there have been many British citizens travelling to join IS too. Does that make us all scum?

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 12:16

Awful.

I have a friend due in from new york, i dont know which airport she was flying in to. Nothing from her yet, but i'm sure i'm being silly to worry :(

CoteDAzur · 29/06/2016 13:15

"This is very sad but not surprising. Also Turkey joining of the eu was my main reason to vote leave."

Turkey is not joining the EU, so you were misguided at best in voting leave. I hope you remember this in the near future, when you suffer inflation, recession, and lasting political turmoil.

"That country is spewing out so many terrorists it's scary".

Really? How many terrorists exactly is Turkey "spewing out"? How many of the terrorists involved in attacks on European soil were Turkish? Please educate us Hmm

Meanwhile, do take a look at the number of UK-born English girls and boys travelling to Turkey to cross over to Syria and fight for ISIS.

CoteDAzur · 29/06/2016 13:17

"I am surprised that this happened at the airport. I have been to Istanbul several times and bags are checked as you enter the airport."

Yes, that is why two have detonated before the check points, at the entrance of the airport. A third managed to run in but was shot down by police before he could blow himself up. That is my understanding anyway.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 13:53

Shit, i've just checked back through her posts on fb and she did fly from ataturk.
Nothing from her yet

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2016 15:49

Any news beyond? X

iknowimcoming · 29/06/2016 15:54

ChowNowBrownCow · 29/06/2016 15:54

beyond - I hope you hear from your friend soon, you must be worried sick!

twofingerstoGideon · 29/06/2016 16:08

Well said, Cote (your post at 13:15)

Another awful tragedy for Turkish people. As if they don't have enough problems to contend with.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 16:21

Nothing yet. Which is weird on its own as she is normally vocal about attacks in turkey.

EdithWeston · 29/06/2016 17:01

The BBC has updated its article, and the death toll now stands at 41

I hope you hear from your friend soon, Beyond

Cathaka15 · 29/06/2016 17:19

Turkey received a pledge that its long-stalled bid for EU membership would be revived, a doubling of refugee aid to from €3bn to €6bn and visa-free travel. Also King of Jordan said "The fact that terrorists are going to Europe is part of Turkish policy," I was born in Beirut so the Middle East always interested me. I'm not here to educate anyone. But I know what the Turkish government is all about. I'm Armenian and the Turkish governor has yet to admit to the genocide of millions of Armenians in 1914. Absolutely disgusting. What's more disgusting is the EU having discussions with this murdering lying tyrant.

CoteDAzur · 29/06/2016 17:22

Beyond - Here are the names of the victims who have lost their lives. None were English. I hope it can put your mind to ease.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 17:28

Thank you cote, she isnt on there (she is turkish)
I guess there is still a possibility she is injured and thats why she is awol, but i can deal with worrying about that

StealthPolarBear · 29/06/2016 17:34

Hoping you hear soon. I suspect phone networks are overloaded etc

CoteDAzur · 29/06/2016 17:36

You know what is disgusting Cathaca? It is this bringing up of "Oh but what about the Armenians who died in 1915?" whenever Turks die in large numbers which, let's face it, happens rather often. As if innocents born two fucking generations after WWI somehow deserved to die. Your schadenfreude makes me sick Angry

Btw your "I am Armenian so was scared of Turks and voted for Brexit" is arguably the dumbest, most ignorant reason to vote Leave that I have heard of yet, so here is your Biscuit

Cathaka15 · 29/06/2016 18:22

Who he hell said people deserve to die? I said the government is at fault for everything that is happening. I didn't vote to leave because I'm Armenian. I voted because turkey will be joining the EU and with that will bring a whole host of issues. Oh and when generations are slauthered by a government and not give a shit. That bothers me. as its not impacted you in anyway that's why you have a big mouth. My grandmother watched her mother being raped and killed in front of her eyes and her sisters baby ripped out of her stomach. DO NOT belittle to what happened to those innocent people no matter how long ago it was. Turkey still have one of the worst human rights issues , particulary in the Kurdish- Turkish conflict and this is why I'm bothered. Oh and Turks dying in large numbers is again because of dick erdogan ignoring jihadist for far too long. He doesn't give a shit about his people. I have many Turkish friends and know the Turkish people hate what's happening to them by that autocratic turd.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/06/2016 18:23

Hope you manage to contact your friend soon Beyond.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/06/2016 18:32

No, the people responsible are the people who choose to use terrorism and murder to further their cause.

I don't think many people will disagree that Erdogan is a dick, but he is not responsible for what happened last night.

Cathaka15 · 29/06/2016 18:44

Turkey opend its doors to all sorts of jihadists from all over the world. Turkey is at fault for being IS supporter.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 19:06

Thanks rafa. She has reappeared now :)
