so why did Preston have sense of humour failure?

Also, knowing Simon Amstell, he was being exceptionally cruel and rude and he wasn't going to let go. If you say anything he gets ruder. It's sometimes very funny to watch, I think, but must be horrible to be on the receiving end of.
I remember going on some crap radio show when I worked for a magazine. They wanted me to be nasty and Edward and Sophie who had just got engaged and say how boring they were. I didn't want to do that, so said that IMO it was a very good and clever idea of theirs to live as 'boring' a life as possible to keep the tabloids off your back and keep your privacy. The presenter though had clearly been briefed that I was going to be rude about them, and it was all set up that he was going to be nasty to me in return, so even though I was being rather nice, he started saying things like, 'Oh you are only calling them boring because nobody would want to marry you' And when I said that actually, I was engaged too, started having a go at my husband
I was really upset - much more about them having a go at him than me, and demanded an apology off air. It really shook me tbh. I understand exactly how he felt.

I get your drift aloha but again, s/he is hoist..etc etc..
and
he didn't have to propose to the woman he was "only" going out with, when he came out of the bb house did he?

How horrid Aloha!! He was clearly a muppet who could not think beyond his mental 'script'.. what a crap presenter!

I admire Jonathan Ross; he manages to be funny and satyrical without being insulting and seems very able follow whatever weird direction the conversation might take without missing a beat.

Aloha · 11/01/2007 17:21

I understand what you are saying Bundle, but I suspect he felt conflicted, confused and guilty. I think we all make emotional mistakes in our twenties - I made hundreds. He's clearly the settling down type though. They make a funny sort of couple but are clearly happy at the moment at least. I don't think he's a bad person. If he was shagging Chantelle behind her back it would be different.
Re the radio thing, for years (amazingly!) I regretted not telling the nasty little presenter that I wasn't going to be insulted on some poxy little regional show and that he could stuff it! I felt really bad about myself that I let him be so horrible. I still wish I'd done a Preston on him.

Shiny, wasn't laughing at the M&S thing (I'm the same boat ) twas more the fact that such twaddle is written by nonentities (or on their behalf) and sold to joe public - who presumably goes buys it - in the name of an autobiography. I am old and grumpy and feel that one shouldn't be allowed to write an autobography unless you are a) very old b) have done something amazing like discovered a cure for cancer or c) are so reudite and witty that whatever you write I would want to read it...

filthymindedvixen · 11/01/2007 18:39

(and can write - unlike me who can't spell erudite

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/01/2007 23:19

Must admit I chucked when I saw "Chantelle's book" on my sister's Christmas shopping list.. her best friend wanted it apparently! How shallow!

arfishy · 11/01/2007 23:50

Was he in the 'serious musician' seat, or the take the piss out of me seat (the one next to the presenter)?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/01/2007 23:55

i don't know, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, all the self promoting of front men, like this years bb towers of london, but i suppose that's the way the music bus works these days

OK, I must be living under a rock or something.....when did they get married???

arfishy · 12/01/2007 00:36

LOL. I was just about to tut at you Sandcastles and say 'FGS I'm in Australia and even I know that they got married' when I remembered you are also in Australia and probably don't waste your money buying imported copies of OK magazine.

They got married last year according to my huge stash of imported OK magazines.

sandcastles · 12/01/2007 01:09

lol....the crap that they call 'celebrity mags' is just not worth my money! All the news is about 3 years old (ok...so I exagerate abit). Even the Oz OK is tripe!

Now...imported OK...where do I get THAT???

JanH · 12/01/2007 01:17

I was really impressed that he cared more about his wife's feelings than about looking a tit on the TV (not that he did necessarily, but most blokes would rib him mercilessly about it).

He is a gentleman, in a good way, I think

sandcastles · 12/01/2007 01:18

It was a nice gesture...ahhh young love!

arfishy · 12/01/2007 02:14

I pick mine up from our local newsagent in Sydney and Central Station. They do lots in Borders in Bondi Junction too.

I have a barter deal with our local hairdresser - I give her UK OK and Hallo magazines and she does my highlights for nothing. Yay!

sandcastles · 12/01/2007 02:17

Well, me thinks me might have to go look in search of OK....

That's a bit of a deal you got going there!
