Commuter who walked past actress at Waterloo station cleared of 'bizarre' sex assault claim

A commuter has been cleared of sexually assaulting a well-known actress after a jury rejected claims the crime could have taken place in a brief half-second contact in a busy railway station.

Mark Pearson, a 51-year-old artist and picture framer, was accused of brushing against the actress, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in a mass of train passengers at London’s Waterloo station.

CCTV footage showed Mr Pearson, who was a complete stranger to the alleged victim, did not break his stride as he walked past the woman, who was heading to a rehearsal.

(contd)

Not really much to say Shock. I'm pleased the CPS will "respect the juries decision". The fact they had to state that implies there have been or will be times when they don't accept the juries decision.

Feenie - that wasn't the actress I thought it was!

bruffin · 08/02/2016 20:03

The board on her imdb page also has its first entry today.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 08/02/2016 20:05

Well she must have thought something happened because of how on the cctv she turns round and stares after him just after he passed her.

But what she said happened can't have happened at least not by him.

So either someone else blocked from view did it and she assumed the man passing her did it.

Or he banged into her and she was cross he didn't say sorry and made the whole thing up.

Or she had a vaginal version of javelin arse at that moment and assumed someone had penetrated her vagina but it was a muscle spasm.

Or she made the whole thing up.

Or something I haven't thought of.

Backingvocals · 08/02/2016 20:07

What a terrible case. That poor man. Horrifying. I tried googling the name but found a whole load of men's rights sites that are rather disturbing Sad

bakeoffcake · 08/02/2016 20:11

It's on her wiki page that she is a "false rape accuser".Shock

I have heard of her, I listen to that programme she's famous for. I wondered why she hasn't been in it much recently.

DrSeussRevived · 08/02/2016 20:12

This thread will get pulled, and rightly, if it seeks to identify her.

She has the legal right to anonymity FFS.

bakeoffcake · 08/02/2016 20:16

Does anyone know if you can report something on Wiki? I think the reference to the case on her wiki page is fucking disgraceful. And it must be illegal.

I just searched and the lovely Google proffered 'actress waterloo assault' when I'd only got as far as typing 'actre' Grin

Didn't even finish typing the word!

evilcherub · 08/02/2016 20:23

Wouldn't the cctv also have shown him hitting her on the shoulder if it happened? In one of the newspaper reports it said she made more of a fuss about being hit on the shoulder than the actual assault.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 08/02/2016 20:23

Ive emailed wiki and alerted them. They can delete stuff and lock the page.

bakeoffcake · 08/02/2016 20:23

Thanks Arf.

bakeoffcake · 08/02/2016 20:31

Someone has removed it. Thanks.

GruntledOne · 08/02/2016 20:49

I do wonder whether the assault actually happened but she and the police simply got the wrong man. After all, she didn't pick him out in the line-up and doesn't seem to recognise the sequence of events in the CCTV recording.

AmyGMumsnet · 08/02/2016 20:50

Hi everyone

As mentioned in the OP, the actress in question can't be named for legal reasons so this is just a quick reminder to everyone to not speculate as to their identity on the thread, or we will be under obligation to remove it.

Thanks all

oldzebra · 08/02/2016 20:59

Evil: she certainly stops and is looking back at him- which ties in with him barging into her - which the police report says she explained in detail but was vague on the sexual assault or 'coy'.

MrsToddsShortcut · 08/02/2016 21:46

The reaction to this (elsewhere) is very scary. Every MRA and embittered male out there is airing their view that she should be strung up and hung out to dry, that this proves that women and feminists are all scheming lying sluts and one charmer opined that of course IT didn't happen because she is in her 60's and everyone knows men don't assault women in their 60's because they are no longer hot. Ugh. I have no idea of the actual facts or what happened to make her claim she was assaulted but the promotion of rape myths on the back of this is utterly vile.

redshoeblueshoe · 08/02/2016 22:06

MrsTodds I totally agree with you. I had a quick look at some sites and I want to bleach my eyes and my brain. The views on some of those sites are very disturbing.

GinBunny · 08/02/2016 23:24

I don't know who it is and don't really care, the fact that she is a famous or not actress is irrelevant. I'm puzzled by this case though because CCTV clearly shows it wasn't him but also clearly shows her stopping and looking back. If it was mistaken identity then CCTV would also show the real perpetrator. I can only assume that she didn't know that there was CCTV there and so embellished her story to get him into trouble for barging into her. It's the only thing that makes any sense to me.

BYOSnowman · 09/02/2016 08:46

I think the suggestion is that he barged past her

The fact she is a high profile/well connected person is relevant if that is what influenced the cps to pursue this

Whathaveilost · 09/02/2016 09:14

The only thing I could find on google was about the Bill Crosby assaults!
I couldn't find anything on Reddit. What words are you putting in search because I'm doing variations on the obvious ones and not getting anywhere.

Would anyone care to pm please.

Re it getting out of hand - if she kicked up a big fuss on the day because he was rude, that man shoved me, and the BT staff got involved, and she embelished it with a bit of, and he also stuck his hand etc - once she realised there was CCTV to show that that couldn't have been the case, surely she would have decided to not press charges? Or would BT police have been able to go forward with the prosecution despite any backtracking attempts?

DrSeussRevived · 09/02/2016 09:30

It is up to the police and CPS whether to press charges.

PMing the complainant's name or tips on how to find it is, I would expect, also a breach of anonymity rules.

laflaca · 09/02/2016 10:11

I've never heard of javelin arse, as mentioned by WhoTheFuckIsSimon, but if she did have some kind of internal spasm, she possibly could have been convinced that she'd been assaulted.
(I'm trying to understand why the woman would have reported it to the police)
