€35 million .. YES that's 35 million euro WRITTEN OFF, wasted, down the pan in Ireland in relation to a new Childrens Hospital.
I'm mad as hell and on no other forum so forgive me for using Mumsnet.
We have come through an awful recession with people suffering very badly due to austerity cuts in Ireland yet our government could waste €35 million.
I just think of the homeless ( big problem in Ireland) , the children with special needs, the sick ( A&E's are in crisis again) the elderly...all who could have benefiited from this money.
The UK government gave Ireland money during the worst of the recession here when the IMF were in. So it does affect many Mumsnetters- some of your tax money was given to Ireland.
But successive Irish governments wasted €35 million planning a hospital .
I despair.
Rant over.

What has a hospital in Ireland got to do with the U.K. Govt? Just asking, not being goady

squidzin ... always one to never to let the facts get in the way of a bit of Tory abuse, even so eloquently put.

The UK government gave Ireland money during the worst of the recession here when the IMF were in.

THERE were the clues Sherlock, for anyone living in the UK; the last Westminster party to call in the IMF for a bail out was Labour in 1976 and it was those Tory whatever, that tried to help out a neighbour despite our own prblems.

Hence I would suggest, the OP frustration.

hollyisalovelyname ... hi there, do you want to really shame your government and say where was the hospital to be built and what it was to be called, or if it was just a concept that despite that money wasted, never go off the ground?

hollyisalovelyname · 10/10/2015 18:15

The hospital now is being resited in Dublin again controversially. It hasn't been built yet.
But they have already written off €35 million.
All those sick children that money could have helped!!!
I blame ( of course) the Irish government and vested interests.
I posted to see if there were any other Irish mumsnetters upset about it.
I'm not on any Irish internet forums.
My point is what a waste of money by a country that had to 'beg' for help from the IMF and from its neighbours - the UK etc.
