Wouldn't this once again, target the less well off?

Would public transport be up to it? The tube can't cope NOW!

This scares me - if fuel tax and car tax aren't scraped but this is in addition to, this is going to make life really hard for us. Dh works about 45 minutes drive away from here - he works in a converted office on part of a farm so NO public transport available. Housing prices nearer his work are just so much higher than here - just not feasible even if we were prepared to yank the kids out of school/nursery to do it.

Like many, in practise there is just no choice. We run fuel efficient cars, we're not wasteful, we do our absolute best to keep costs down and reduce/reuse/recycle things. This just feels like a kick in the teeth, to be honest.

Does this government actually want people to work? Surely there must be plenty of people worse off than us for whom it just won't be financially viable to work anymore!

Surely this would only work in urban areas unless they did something radical to improve public transport in the country

Mirage...you mean all MPs, think tank researchers etc assume everyone is like them? I bet you are right!

They say it is going to replace fuel and car tax - call me negative if ya like but it won't

The public transport in this country is appalling and expensive. When our car recently broke down we wanted to go shopping in our local town. We changed our minds when we worked out that a 2 mile trip on the bus was going to cost us over £10 . And they wonder why people travel by car
