Somebody started another thread about this and hardly nobody else posted.

It's like we never learned the first time. It was one of the main contributing factors in children being taken from parents in the past.
Now, instead of taking their children and leaving them homeless, now it's just allowing them to be homeless.
WTF should it matter what area you are from.
This poor child, what a waste of a life.

It's desperately sad. In a way I hope there's more to the story, as the thought that there wasn't help rather than the parents couldn't access it is worse.

How awful - surely SS should have got involved during the pregnancy to help her find housing or something!

So sad that this is allowed to happen in this day and age!

What the fuck has this story got to do with Syrian refugees? As someone who has been homeless and eventually got a place in a domestic violence refuge I know that there absolutely is help for battered and/or abused women especially with babies if they go to their local refuge. It's not rocket science, and my guess is she refused that help because she wanted to stay with her lover (if she went into a refuge the address would have to be kept confidential and her partner would not be allowed anywhere near.)

I think the poor woman was too afraid to seek help in the place she had come from.

Maybe avoid guessing and speculating eh Spam? We don't know the whole truth and insinuating she chose her 'lover' over everything else is out of order. We know practically nothing about her.

. A family living in a car in the 21st century with a new baby. That to me is a serious safe guarding issue, well look what has happened. What's going on. . Goes without saying this should not have happened. We-re one of the richest countries in the world. People should not be living like this.

That is an awful story, but shame on the paper and UKIP for trying to stir up more shit. That poor baby's life is worth a lot more than that.

She was fleeing from an abusive ex. But the father of the child was from the new area. So it was nothing to do with wanting to stay with her abuser. Sometimes I wonder if people are reading the same article I am.

Syrian refugees were brought up as that council is supposed to be taking some in, and there are questions being asked about whether there is the means to provide for them when the local people are living in such unacceptable situations. It is a fair point. One that hasn't been thought out at the highest levels of govt, and will land at the feet of local councils on tight budgets with no real power.

Just, just sad that people still slip through the net.

Story is a load of bollocks.

From what I can see the facts are:

• baby was not premature, 38 weeks is full-term
• couple were renting a room in someone's house
• landlady (perfectly lawfully) kicked them out when the baby was born. I assume the couple were informed in advance of this.
• they slept in their car for one or two nights in July, when they were in Poole, after the baby was born, before being advised by Poole council to seek housing in Kent
• so they returned to Kent, where they were housed by Kent C.C. in a B+B
• baby died while living in B+B, no connection to sleeping in car at all

Also the mother was scared of social services taking her child away, and apparently avoided contact with them for this reason.

Now the question is - why did the child die, and did social services do enough to help?

I read that the time they applied for housing with Poole they were staying in another area in a rented room and rightly turned away.

There is no mention of the cause of death to the poor baby so to link it to the homelessness is lazy sensationalist journalism.

Local authorities have policies. They had links to other areas which would have helped them and they were advised about that at the time.

It's desperately sad and by printing such a sensationalist article The Express muddies the water and will make it harder for other families to get help an housing agencies and social workers to do their jobs.

Rick, well that puts an end to the misrepresentations going on over this.

So what was to the baby's death certificate? That is the most relevant issue of course.
So the story more accurately would be full term baby and parents housed by local council through generosity of tax payers' money and sadly baby dies and social services were worried about adequacy of the parents.
