Why is there not a huge uproar of dissent from us all over what has been done, and continues to be done, in the name of, well... us.

The Syrians who are having to flood to Europe? It's all essentially because of the West. Because of the stealthy, terrifying dismantlement of the "regimes" of the set of countries which the US and allies (like "us") have been hellbent on controlling for a long time (at least since 9/11).

The majority of people flooding to Europe are not Syrian citizens.

The regime in Syria is still in place, despite the President's war on the majority of his subjects (Sunnis) that began in March 2011 when he fired on peaceful demonstators and is still trying to bomb them out of their homes to this day.

If there was any argument to stop a dictator murdering his own Sunni citizens (which form around 80% of the Syrian population by stopping Assad's planes, helicopter and big field guns, killing and displacing them (some of whom Cameron visited if refugee camps around 3-years ago) - it was lost 2-years ago, in the UK parliament, so they received no U.S. help either.

Rather delighted actually because had been feeling mildly bad for starting thread I didn't have time to attend to properly. And I like the Goodies.

When you say the 'West', what do you mean? Western Europe plus America? You're really lumping countries in together there. Not every country has anything to do with what happened in Syria. Moreover, even in countries that do, most ordinary citizens have naff all control over what their government do, or large multinationals operating in their country. Generalising and apportioning wide scale blame is pointless.

So are we responsible for the sins of the fathers?

How far back does that go? I don't think you'd find a person on this planet who hasn't had some ancestor at some time who was maltreated.

And what about now? If a child's father is in prison, should that child pay for his father's wrongdoing? Should the child now or in the future compensate the crime's victim?
