1 in 10 children born to FGM mothers in Southwark

Trust for London, Equality Now and the Home office have reported that 1 in 10 children is born to a mother who suffered female genital mutilation in Southwark in London. That is a huge number.

it's based on the cenus of the immigrant populations that live there. Having lived there myself, it is not inconceivable.

support is improving, but sadly its probably a case of learning on the job. FGM is not widely spoken about to people outside of the culture and you don't say that it is wrong to your elders. It has really taken for a generation of young ladies to be born here (outside of those countries in question) to become assertive and begin the education process. It will take time to educate and eliminate this hideous prehistoric practice.
