Can I just say, he would not have been imprisoned if he was considered to be mentally ill at the time of the offence, despite him saying the beast within him made him do it. He would have been comprehensively assesed. He is not ill he is an evil bastard who could have stopped himself if he had wanted to.

alexa1 · 15/11/2006 14:17

i agree. i bet he was trying to convince the court he was mentally ill by saying the beast within him told him to murder the child. didn't seem to work thank goodness.

I get sick of people saying they couldn't help it, or they can't control their temper.
You can unless you have a medically recognised illness or condition.
Can you tell I use to work in the Criminal Justice system?

there are no words. what frightens me is more people like him must in exist in 'normal' society.

Pandamania · 15/11/2006 18:01

Just accidently heard this on the news and wish I hadn't...How the hell is 17 years a suitable sentence, especially with his previous record???

SpaceCadet · 15/11/2006 18:05

omg..monster.

hulababy · 15/11/2006 18:05

17 years is the minimum he will be inside, probably longer. I am sure his time in prison will not be a fun one. It won't take the other prisoners long to find out why he is inside.

donnie · 15/11/2006 18:09

I just cannot bring myself to read the link as it sounds too terrible.

ruty · 15/11/2006 18:26

i really hope you are right hulababy.

frumpygrumpy · 15/11/2006 18:29

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2006 18:35

Sad Sad Sad

hub2dee · 15/11/2006 19:08

Surely the family would be aware of the prior conviction.

alexa1 · 15/11/2006 19:14

not necessarily

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/11/2006 19:19

Not necessarily - if he married into their family ikywim?

hub2dee · 15/11/2006 19:50

Sorry, being dim.

divastrop · 15/11/2006 21:08

wtf is wrong with people?who would do that to a defenceless baby?i really dont know whats going on in this world anymore, maybe its the fact that evil b**ds like that can do what they want and only get 17 years in 'prison' with sky tv and playstations and hot food,oh and bloody poncey 'anger management' and 'group therapy' dished out by clueless do-gooders.
if they were going to spend the rest of their lives in solitary confinement with bread and water to live on maybe they would think twice.

aliceband · 15/11/2006 21:37

prison is definately too good for him.

ernest · 15/11/2006 22:16

but he was her uncle, ie, as far as I can tell with the surnames, he's the brother of poor bab'y father. If your brother had been convicted of attacking a baby, surely you'd know??? How could you not???

ALso I found strange, it said he'd admitted causing her distress the evening and then the next morning his wife went to work and he killed the baby. Seems to suggest the wife was there when he was causing her distress?

I don't know, it's just all so awful. Poor poor baby

hub2dee · 16/11/2006 08:23

ernest - the killer doesn't share the surname of the baby's father.

ernest · 16/11/2006 12:34

no, my mistake. absolutely terrible. How would you ever carry on? And for it to be within the faily like this must make the repercussions even worse, if that's possible. Sadly, all too common.

expatinscotland · 16/11/2006 12:51

Aw. I have an 11-month-old baby girl. Can't imagine wanting her to feel any pain, though. It breaks my heart when she and her older sister fall ill. Even when they cough in the night w/just a cold, it still wakes me up and I wait in case they cry out.

calebsmum · 16/11/2006 15:20

another horrid one here, father killing his 9wk old daughter here

alexa1 · 16/11/2006 16:05

there is some sick people in society. it's getting worse. how worrying.
