A programme that may interest some of you;

DISPATCHES: Women Only Jihad
Channel 4, Monday 30th October 9pm.

It looks as though it will concentrate on UK muslim women's struggle with their men folk to gain their rights to pray at their local mosques (among other issues).

Mosques are usually run by trustees (fusty old men as a rule of thumb, but that's begining to change), as a general rule they are financed by the worshippers themselves.

Thanks Fuzzy
I have seen a few vague references in newspapers to mosques increasingly getting money from Saudi Wahabis (have I spelt that right?) who attach strings in terms of the kind of Islam that these mosques promote - is that something you have heard of too or is it just scaremongering, do you think?

No I think that's pretty much scaremongering.
In mosques we learn to recite the quran, we learn to pray salat, we learn about the lives of the prophet's (pbut), and then we 'graduate', it's pretty much the same whichever mosque one attends.

Wealthy Arabs living in the UK do give money to help build mosques, but it's in the form of charity, and usually they ask that the mosque is built to a specific design, or called something specific.
An arab who lost his son at a young age, merely asked the mosque be called after his son.
It's a sort of ongoing charity form, the donator(s) will receive blessings for his charity for every worshipper who worships in the mosque forever.

It's the same for having wells dug, or water pumps built in places (like people do in India), the donator of the money will receive blessings for every person who drinks from the well/water pump until it is no longer used.
