I was really scared when I heard this news the other day and am worried about it. I don't think it's that hypocritical to condemn a country for having a nuclear (my ds2 says 'Nuc-U-lure' as well - weird!) weapon when the population is on the brink of starvation and only kept going by aid from other countries. And that's where Kim Il Jong (do you know, for long enough I thought PyongYiang was the name of N Korea's president, not its capital!) has the West over a barrel. What can we do - apply sanctions and condemn 25 million people to death by hunger? Scary scenario.

I think that the sanctions are going to include 'luxury' goods and (the irony of it) arms. China is really worried that this will cause a huge influx of refugees from N Korea.

I think our friend Kim won't hesitate to use it if he thinks he will get some advantage from it. I have just heard on the radio that Pyongyang have said any further diplomatic pressure from the US will be considered an act of war. Mmmm really dealing with a rational person there.

Southeastastra - I really don't know what we can do but talking about it is a start. Putting pressure on our MPs to get some sort of meaningful UN resolution maybe? It is a hard one but our govt couldn't give a toss what we think because they think we're too busy watching Big Brother and eating Big Macs to care what they do.

Send in the SAS!! Well, before he didn't have WMP and now he does. He is full of bull I agree with you, but dictators never seem to become more reasonable and rational as they get older. I think that before this the US was happy to let him get on with it (they moved all of their nuclear bombs out of Asia a while ago) because China kept him in check.
