California sueing car manufacturers

Anyone else read/heard about this?

California has started a case against the top 6 car manufacturers over the pollution and damage to the environment they have caused.

Not too sure of my opinion on this one and finding it hard to express.

We all know that something has to be done to stop the damage we are doing to our planet but if people didn't want to buy gas guzzelers (saw a quote about Arnold Swarzenegger selling his 10 mpg fleet of cars in response) the the manufacturers wouldn't make or sell them.

What about other polluters? Are they going to sue them all? Will they have to work out how much proportionally they damage the environment?

Can't see how this will work.

Fair question. I think "decent battery" is one which can be used to deliver roughly the same amount of energy as the same weight and volume as petrol.

We're a long way off that.

I've no idea what your education is GeorginaA, but...
The Prius is as I understand it very popular in the USA, so much so, that they make more money by not bothering to ship them over.
It's very hard to instantly increase manufacturing rate of cars. Long lead times. Very eay to jack it up, just as demand comes down.

I fail to see what this has to do with green vehicles ? There's an implication in your post that you're not an arts grad ?

The Prius is a hybrid.
It runs off fossil fuel. Either directly or indirectly.
Itr's direct emissions are lower than my Renault, but the total emissions are most probably higher.

sigh yes I know the Prius is a hybrid - a hybrid petrol/electric. I'm just pointing out that even that option is scarce.

Fair enough, sorry if I misinterpreted you.
