So sorry for all concerned. Her family, colleagues, the poor young kids who witnessed it - aged 5 and 6 - how do you get over something like that!
Also thinking of the Corpus Christi Leeds case - no doubt this will bring it all back for the family, pupils and colleagues of Ann McGuire.

I'm not far from Albi. I understand that mental health services are particularly strained in France and that this woman is known locally to the social service equivalent.
Parents are still a little nervous around here after the shootings at the school in Toulouse a couple of years back. We still have very visible guards at our gates. This won't help.
It's a terrible tragedy for everyone, for the family of the teacher, for all the children who witnessed it and for the daughter of the murderer. As you say how do children get over something like this?

I dont want to write this next bit but I will.
I think I am right in saying that aged 5 and 6 they wont actually remember very much.
Different story entirely if they were a liitle older.
The childdren in Dunblane for instance were much the same age.

I suppose they might not remember the event itself so clearly but I imagine they will remember how it made them feel and how they processed it for the rest of their lives.

DS was almost 5 when his GF died, he is now 9.
He can remember lots of fun times with GF in the park, holidays etc, he can remember visiting the hospice, he can remember the funeral. These were not hugely traumatic like seeing this act of violence will have been, I think these children will be deeply affected by what they witnessed. Imagine how terrified they must have been at the time.I hope to goodness they get the care and support they need to process it and not end up terrified of going to school etc. In time, yes, it will fade and be a memory of something they know happened, but not something they can vividly remember.

At five most of them will have very clear memories about it, a traumatic event like that won't be forgotten, in some it will be more engrained, vivid and traumatic than others, it depends on the child.

What a horrible thing to happen, she had young children as well, so much loss and pain.

The authorities need to invest in better mental health services, people like this shouldn't fall through the cracks. It may also be advisable to send teachers on self defence courses so they have some training to deal with violent aggressors, it may not work for everyone but it might give them a fighting chance. Simple skills can be life saving.

One of the shocking things was that on the French TV news this was the second news item, after about 15 minutes on the first item - about the French football team being out of the World Cup.
