BBC News

According to the TV news tonight the child was wearing shorts and a T shirt. She musthave had a blanket or something though?

OMG! How terrible. Thank goodness the doorman noticed her before the woman actually drove.

Hulababy · 19/03/2004 19:45

Anyone think 3 months is way too leniant?

I guess she will lose her daughter more than likely though.

Janh · 19/03/2004 19:49

There was an NSPCC woman on the news saying something about the mother being lacking in parenting skills and needing help...yes, 3 months does seem lenient but not if she has problems, I suppose.

The car had blacked out windows so nobody could see the baby until she opened the door. And she lives in Salford Quays. So it sounds as if she's not short of money. Very very strange all round.

At least now she's done something so stunningly awful, they can both get the help they need. Especially the child. This type of neglect, if slightly more covert, could have gone on for years undetected.

fisil · 20/03/2004 11:32

What about the little girl? What happened to her? Do we assume she got through it physically unscathed? Emotionally ... well I just hope she finds a happy foster/adoptive family!

tigermoth · 20/03/2004 13:48

shockingly long time to leave a child. I bet there is much more to this story than meets the eye. As you say, janh, very strange all round.

Who knows how many times she has done this?
Perhaps the doorman knew her well. Perhaps she was forced to stay in the nightclub against her will for some reason. All sorts of scenarios come to mind.

I hope she gets some help and the little girl is throughly supported by the social services. That IMO is more important than giving the mother a long prison sentence.

Angeliz · 20/03/2004 14:03

Poor little girl!

At least now she'll be hopefully tucked up safely in bed on a night rather than forgotten and probably terrified in a car!

Shocking!!

Janh · 20/03/2004 14:22

There's a bit more information here - she was pissed as well and tried to drive .

musica · 20/03/2004 14:24

Was that really 09:30 to 02:20 - 17 hours????????????? Surely not? Surely nobody would leave a child that long? That poor poor child.

musica · 20/03/2004 14:25

Oh that second link says 5 hours. Still really appalling though.

Demented · 20/03/2004 14:40

, awful.

bunny2 · 20/03/2004 20:24

poor little mite. How awful some people are.

wobblyknicks · 20/03/2004 20:26

musica - the times were put weirdly - I assume it should have been 21.30 to 2.20 - still very shocking though!!

stupidgirl · 20/03/2004 21:03

How very sad. I hope the little girl is kept safe now.

zebra · 20/03/2004 21:10

Paper said that the child was in foster care & mother only allowed supervised contact 3x/week.

Paula71 · 21/03/2004 20:18

What a stupid little b**ch. How dare she put her poor baby through that!

I see red over stories like this and would gladly ignore my feelings on people liberties to see madams like this sterilised so they can't put any more children through their selfishness.

(Ahem, I probably don't mean that but I hate to see people abuse their right to have children.)
