RIP Sue

Red socks today then. Adrian Mole is a year older than me, I grew up with him.

Oh gosh that's terribly sad. Adrian Mole is completely synonymous with my youth.

dopeysheep · 11/04/2014 07:00

Yes just read that. RIP Sue. I loved Adrian Mole (doesn't everyone?) and also the Queen and I was it? Where the royals had to bunk up with a regular family.

Also really considered Pandora as dd's name but didn't in the end cos of box jokes. Was close though.

tedmundo · 11/04/2014 07:01

Very sad news. She was a fantastic writer.

Rooble · 11/04/2014 07:33

Very sad. I, too, grew up simultaneously with Adrian Mole and loved the books.

RoxyRobin · 11/04/2014 07:34

Very sorry to hear about her death. She's given me so many laughs over the years. And she came over as such a likeable woman.

Dillydollydaydream · 11/04/2014 07:39

I loved reading Adrian Mole when u was growing up. Very sad to hear this news.

KB02 · 11/04/2014 07:40

Loved her writing. Just read the obituary linked above and I hadn't realised she had such bad luck with her health for so long.

YokoUhOh · 11/04/2014 07:44

Loved the 'Falklands under the toast crumb' diary entry and I'm sure everyone will recognise Adrian's gran not letting anyone else hold the baby! RIP Sue.

Badvoc · 11/04/2014 07:49

Very sad to hear this.
RIP sue.

VoyageDeVerity · 11/04/2014 07:51

God I adored the books. What a remarkable woman reading her obituary.
RIP

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 11/04/2014 07:55

That's very sad.

Never got Adrian mole tho. Not a right of passage book for me. Couldn't stick the writing.

ShoeJunkie · 11/04/2014 07:58

RIP - I loved the Adrian Mole books and The Queen and I.

maudpringle · 11/04/2014 07:58

Now that is sad news.
Like so many others I grew up with Adrian, Pandora and Barry Kent.
What a lot of pleasure she has given over the years.
R.I.P SueThanks

MissBetseyTrotwood · 11/04/2014 08:06

RIP - I loved those books. She always seemed to say such sensible things when interviewed too.

One awful Christmas when my DDad was really ill and lashing out at everyone I got 'The Diary of Adrian Mole'. Truly, it made the day bearable as I shut myself in my room and read it cover to cover in a day, laughing out loud.

Thanks to you Sue.

Cleanknickersfulltummy · 11/04/2014 08:09

That's sad. She was so clever and funny. I grew up with Adrian Mole too.

OwlCapone · 11/04/2014 08:09

How sad. I'm another one who grew up with Adrian Mole.

MorrisZapp · 11/04/2014 08:14

My mother has been moody all day. There's a box in the bathroom with predictor written on it. I hope she's not dabbling in the occult.

I could quote you all day long Sue. Rest in peace.

Nataleejah · 11/04/2014 08:24

RIP Sue
Adrian series are one of the best books i ever read :(

OhBabyLilyMunster · 11/04/2014 08:31

I think im going to have to buy the adrian mole books again. Absolutely fantastic....RIP sue, a comedy genius.

MsJupiter · 11/04/2014 08:33

I genuinely believe that the Royals are exactly as they are portrayed in The Queen & I. Such brilliant comic writing.

Like many others I adored reading AM as a teenager (my copies have shattered spines) and then coming back to him years later and realising how many jokes had gone over my head! Will get them out for a re-read soon.

napoleonsnose · 11/04/2014 08:34

Sad news indeed. I grew up with Adrian and loved the books. Still have my original 'diary', a 12th birthday present in 1984.
