Yes, mad - but only one mad clerk who made a rather presumptious mistake at the P.O - it's not until quite late in the article that you see that the passport office have no problem at all with the photo, and say it was a mistake by the P.O to reject it.

the rules are so daft surrounding kids photos on passports. The lengths we had to go to, to get DS to close his mouth for a photo the other week (he is 15 mths). In the end, all we could do was grab a boiled sweet they had in a jar on the counter, and shove in ds's mouth so he was close his mouth to suck it. It worked, but he looks really odd.

I just got passports for me and DD, and the clerk at the post office kept saying that my photo would be rejected as the head was too big. Having had it printed out to specific measurements at the photo shop, then measured it myself at home I was sure it was Ok, so insisted he send it anyway. Two weeks later I have my passport as the photo was perfectly fine. I was not impressed by his attitude, and would be unlikely to use the PO checking service again. And it costs £7!!

Oh, am so with Caligula on jobsworths presuming other people will be offended. The mother should just have sent the bloody thing straight to the passport agency and ignored the post office clerk.

And agree with Domini about the nightmare that will hit us if ID cards come in - remember the queues in the street when they bought a new computer system for the passport agency? ID cards will be a thousand times more complex...

I'm hoping I end up with Boris Johnson's ID. Will raid his bank account.
