Oscar Pistorius trial

Starting a new thread as as was pointed out on the other thread, it is not an appropriate place to "talk" and continue to "promote" a really poor excuse for a "joke".

Yesterday's post-mortem evidence was awful; if ever there's a way to get across just how unglamorous guns are, post-mortem evidence is a painfully honest way of doing so.

I listened to the trial live today. My main impression? That Darren Fresco consulted with legal experts to ensure his affidavit did not incriminate him, yet left room for questions that weren't explicitly answered. If he'd paid for that input from legal experts, they didn't sew it up nicely and tightly. I got the impression he was a bit of an unwilling witness really, and had problems remembering some things, yet was very insistent on others. Some good journo feeds on twitter that give different flavours and interpretations.

I'll be honest. I hope this was as OP said, an appalling mistake. But equally so many questions, the constant "whys". And so I am sitting on the fence, listening to argument and counter-argument, and waiting for the judge's final decision.

Never have been in a court of law before, are proceedings usually this long, slow, going round in circles, playing cat and mouse?

OP posts:

Titsalina - it is indeed a tragedy for all involved, regardless of his innocence or guilt. Makes me very glad I don't like in a society where guns are commonplace - UK.

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:26

How what OP said that? That Stripp seemed to not know what he was doing?

KL07 · 09/04/2014 09:28

Any thoughts on the judge and the slighty odd use of interpreters - some of the Afrikaans speaking police who testified through the interpreter initially later switched to English and had English at least as good as hers. Others only testified in English and seemed to use strange words in uncommon contexts. Didn't one, when reading a text exchange between OP and RS pronounce the word 'ho' (as in pejorative for sex worker) as 'H.O.' leaving me wondering if he properly understood what he was saying!

KL07 · 09/04/2014 09:33

Lack of question marks in suitable places in my last post - ooops!

voiceofgodot · 09/04/2014 09:35

I think Roux has told him to up the M'Lady refs - he didn't do it yesterday.

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:36

Yep onestep, just been reading over a sky correspondent's tweets

voiceofgodot · 09/04/2014 09:38

I heard him say that too. Some very precise things being carefully placed in his testimony...

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:38

Oh shit Nel's up.

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:38

Oh god. It's actually going to be that bad

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:39

Is anyone else watching this?!

BumPotato · 09/04/2014 09:40

I am watching.

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:40

Thanks, How, I'm surprised he has such a clear vivid memory of the immediate aftermath of it, I would expect him to be confused, shocked etc.., tbh.

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:41

Are you finding this brutal? I knew it was going to be but he's really just going for it!

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:41

Where can I watch?

KL07 · 09/04/2014 09:43

I'm watching. Sky News live now...

LouiseBrooks · 09/04/2014 09:46

Nel is very clever. His comments about how OP "asked to see" this video they are referring to.

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:48

Ok, can't seem to get it on my iPad and have sick DS watching stingray on the DVD, so can people keep me updated on here please.

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:48

This judge is good. I will feel like whatever verdict she delivers will be fitting - she's so considered (obviously as judges are supposed to be, but still!)

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:49

Ooo DS asleep, I'll see if I can slip it on quietly.

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:51

Does anyone know that if somehow, the state had new evidence whether they'd be able to present it or if because their case has been made, it would not be allowed? Or would they just have to hand it over to the defence for viewing first, and then be able to present it?

OneStepCloser · 09/04/2014 09:51

Sorry, what this video about?

KL07 · 09/04/2014 09:53

The Sky news one of OP on a shooting range firing at watermelons etc. Court now adjourned while judge decides if video is new evidence or not and can be shown or not!

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:53

Apparently it's a video that sky news acquired where OP is clearly heard saying the watermelon that had been shot "split like a zombie stopper". He just said he doesn't know what a zombie stopper is

HowAboutNo · 09/04/2014 09:53

And neither do I!
