Wow what a personal achievement and a good fund raiser.

Gem13 · 04/07/2006 17:07

I wasn't so impressed about it until he said that more people had climbed Everest than had swum the Channel.

He also said that while he was on tour he had to get up early to go on lengthy swims in rivers to build up his stamina and then do the show in the evening.

I'm really impressed with his dedication. Surely he could afford to give his own money to Sport Relief without putting in the effort!

Well done him!

crikey Gem - not that impresseed. 10 hour solid swimming in 15 degrees!! bloody amazing.

Gem13 · 04/07/2006 17:27

Of course I am impressed, I just thought it was quite a common thing to do like marathon running. Something I couldn't do in a million years but that plenty of people do.

Not so much now, but I seem to remember in my childhood various tv stories of people staggering up French beaches having swum across. Obviously there were only a few!

I can swim 50 metres in the local pool ...

i know it's an amazing feat and all but can't help but wish he will be eaten by a blue whale

JanH · 04/07/2006 17:51

Are there a lot of blue whales in the Channel, sea?

southeastastra · 04/07/2006 17:54

no but maybe one will veer off course

LadyTophamHatt · 04/07/2006 18:02

there was a 25foot basking shark off the coast of cornwall yesterday...would that do for you SEA?

Think it amazing that he's done this!

Blandmum · 04/07/2006 18:04

I was gobsmacked when they said that there were more poeple who had climbled Everest.

7000 people have tried to swim the channel and 700 odd have done it.

Respect to the guy. It would have killed me.

Mercy · 04/07/2006 18:38

Blimey - well done David!
