Baby Bond or something similar i think. I don't think you do anything to claim it, they notify you. It hasn't been sorted yet i don't think. My ds is 1 now and we still haven't heard anything.

its not up and running yuet. i've heard it will be in the form of a 'voucher' which u cant take to banks to invest into a special account. dd2 was born on 1st sept 2002 so i think she will just qualify.

I think it's due to start in 2005 - but backdated for babies who are eligible now.

I am most peeved, as DD was born on 1st August 2002 and has therefore missed out on this by a month.

www.thechildrensmutual.co.uk/CTF/home.jsp - this internet address has all the info about this.

Is it means tested or available to everyone irrespective of household income?

coppertop · 20/02/2004 16:56

The £250 is for everyone, regardless of how much they easrn/own. Families with low incomes may be entitled to £500.

snap...JanHR - my dd was born on 1st of August 2002.... and so she too misses out by a month

There is talk of extending the scheme as a tax shelter you and relatives can invest in on behalf of our child, but not including the govt. voucher for initial £250, though to children born before the present cut-off date.
