Gove thinks those who turn to food banks are there because of their "own decisions"

"I had the opportunity to visit a food bank in my constituency only on Friday and I appreciate that there are families who do face considerable pressures. It's often as a result of some decisions that have been taken by those families which mean that they are not best able to manage their finances"

I hate that this govt pulls the rug from under people and then blames them for it.

Well of course it's their fault. That poor woman chose to flee her abusive husband. She shoulda stayed , there was food in the cupboards who cares about her safetyHmm

Here's something interesting. The forms the DWP uses to refer people to food banks have changed, so that food banks can no longer see the reasons why people are being referred. Wonder if they were worried about food banks collating the info and finding that the fault might not lie with "poor financial management"?

Oh and here are some figures by the Trussel Trust that point to the poor decisions being on the part of the DWP not the people forced to rely on charity to feed themselves.

I work for a citizen's advice bureau and we collate the information about why we are referring people to food banks (and send the info to head office so they can collect national figures). The reason most people we see need food banks is because their benefits have been messed up rather than anything to do with poor financial management.

Excellent. I knew this would happen. Eventually his natural delusion and cuntishness would mean he would have to move on from teachers and start on some other unsuspecting groups of people. If he offends enough people, more might realise what an absolute nob he is and get rid of him.

Havea But when the statistics point to the majority needing food banks because of benefit delays/sanctions then it is silly to focus on the minority. Unless of course there's a bit of an agenda.. not that I'd ever accuse the Tories of that...

But of course he's going to say that as anything else would mean having to acknowledge his own culpability. Did he make those remarks after he had left the food bank to avoid the anger and hurt of those he insulted?

He has obviously been watching Jamie Oliver. In fact they do have very similar mouths which makes me suspect they may be more than 'spiritual Brothers under the skin'.

I'd invite him to spend a day with the project I volunteer in - we do give food out, but mainly we help destitute families (refugees, women fleeing violence) furnish their new homes.

He's a monumental twat and I don't think it would make a bit of difference, but we could do with someone to make the tea at busy times.
