Friend sent me \link{http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds33097.html\this link}.

Now it could have been a stunt with fake blood and heroin but those on the receiving end would not have known that. Totally irresponsible behaviour imo.

This guy has a young son but he needs to grow up or else it is going to end badly for himSad

now expat to cheer you up come and see my toffs thread

I found the article really interesting-- one of those rare pieces of celebrity journalism that really does change your perception of someone. Sadly it seems all too obvious at the moment where his story will end, but it's fascinating to examine how he ever got to this point. Too much freedom and love as a kid... too little...? I guess its only a few years since I would have read an article like that and found myself identifying (not in a life-threatening-drugs-habit kind of way, but a stage-of-life sort of way) with him. Now its his parents I want to know more about. The ironic agony of bringing a child up and worrying about vaccination and stranger danger and the green cross code, only to watch them do this to themselves.

I dunno, I'm not of the 'blame the parents' mentality at all. Pete was an adult when he started using heroin. He even lied to himself - 'it was opium' - when he KNEW it was smack he was smoking.

I think there needs to be more personal responsibility when it comes to one's actions as an adult.

If he's a lucky junkie, he'll live to be Courtney Love's age. Of course, it depends on if you consider being alive, but being an out of control, 40-something junkie lucky. If he's not, he'll be another Kurt Cobain.

when you are an addict though you arent responsible for your own actions

expatinscotland · 18/05/2006 12:53

ah, but Pete made a conscious decision to use heroin. He knew it was smack he smoked that fateful day. No one put a gun to his head and forced him to buy and smoke smack.

Orlando · 18/05/2006 12:55

Guess I wasn't intendind to imply that there's any blame on the parents, but just wondering how a person ends up screwing themselves up so very comprehensively when all the signs looked good. If they did...

PinkKerPlink · 18/05/2006 12:55

I know but it could be done foolishly. Some people are unaware how addictive it is, unluckily. Even in this day and age

expatinscotland · 18/05/2006 15:55

That's no excuse, though, Pink, IMO, of course, to go pulling stunts like throwing your blood on people just trying to do their job.

Sorry, but he knew it was smack when he smoked it. He said it himself. He'd already been using other drugs. He is not a man of no intellgence, he knew how powerful smack is.

But he still chose to do it, for whatever reason.

He was a consenting adult when he tried it, too.
