I think the public want to know if anyone in a powerful position has been involved in a coverup or has lied about the case of the allegations about Lord Rennard. The public don't know the facts and have no way of knowing and that is why they rely on the press to find out what the facts are.

limitedperiodonly · 11/03/2013 10:45

It's not me who brought up what Pryce said about Trimingham.

It's nasty gossip. I find nasty gossip entertaining sometimes. But then I admit it.

yellowbrickrd · 11/03/2013 10:59

In using that quote I was responding to it's use in an earlier post which in turn had quoted it from an article in the Mail. I assume you're trying to scare about discussing stuff online so that'd be another 'oh dear' from me.

You seem determined to take personal issue in a discussion which is not personal. I haven't claimed to be above any interest in gossip, I was talking in general terms about the public and the media and their appetite for such stories.

They are court now. Mitigating arguments from the lawyers.

BerylStreep · 11/03/2013 16:58

Tom Symonds is tweeting for BBC.

BerylStreep · 11/03/2013 17:00

Looks like prison likely for them both.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 11/03/2013 17:02

8 months for Chris

BerylStreep · 11/03/2013 17:02

8 months for Huhne in prison

KateShrub · 11/03/2013 17:04

BBC saying Hoon will spend 4-6 weeks in a proper prison and then probably 3 months in an open prison.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 11/03/2013 17:05

Wow, didnt expect the same for her.

hackmum · 11/03/2013 17:05

Eight months each! I thought she might get slightly less than him. But then she argued her case to the bitter end so perhaps that counted against her.

BerylStreep · 11/03/2013 17:05

OMG - 8 months for Pryce Shock

KateShrub · 11/03/2013 17:05

same sentence, 8 mths, for his wife.

hackmum · 11/03/2013 17:07

Judge described her as "controlling and manipulative". Have you noticed how in judge-speak women are always "manipulative"?

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 11/03/2013 17:08

hackmum, thought exactly the same, I thought she would get a lesser sentance.

feeltheforce · 11/03/2013 17:09

Am really shocked. There is no way she is as guilty as him.

Tom Parmentier, Sky tweeted from court "Gasps in public gallery for Vicky Pryce sentence".

I am surprised that he didn't receive significantly longer than her. He would have got 9 months, but got 1 month off for pleading guilty it seems.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 11/03/2013 17:11

Lembit Opik has just said he thought Vicky Pryce would have got a longer sentance Hmm

cornypony · 11/03/2013 17:11

why is she not as guilty as him? She did the same. I do feel sorry for her though.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 11/03/2013 17:12

sorry, longer sentance than him.

hackmum · 11/03/2013 17:12

The judge described Huhne as "slightly more culpable", but gave him 10% reduction for pleading guilty. So I suppose that's how they ended up with the same sentence.

I don't know why the judge is so sure that she went along with it willingly.

mayorquimby · 11/03/2013 17:13

Good decision imho

feeltheforce · 11/03/2013 17:13

No she is less guilty IMHO because he instigated it by writing her name on the form and sending it off. This then left her in a terrible position - having to inform on a spouse. Yes she was wrong to continue the deception but she didn't initiate the crime.

LineRunner · 11/03/2013 17:13

These judges are telepathic where women are concerned.
