a lot of employers who employ part time workers expect those workers to keep themselves available just IN CASE they are needed to do overtime.
Therefore making it harder to get another part time job to fit around those unreasonable requirements

What i meant was that some employers employing a part time worker who eg works Monday to Wednesday will then expect that part time worker to keep themselves available for Thursday and Friday JUST IN CASE they are needed.

Surely not a surprise in the middle of the biggest economic crisis since The Depression.

Yes it is shocking actually, in the context of a period when the gap between rich and poor has never been wider. Don't fall for the Depression excuse.

This is why my head wants to explode when the Tories go on and on about people needing to find jobs. Plenty of people DO have jobs and are still skint.

I really think it's important to raise awareness about this. You can see on the threads here, plenty of people still think everyone on housing benefit are workshy layabouts when actually 80% are in work already.

It's surely about more than financial issues though. I am definitely poorer financially out of work than IN work...by about £125 a month when all is taken I to account.
I am not surprised by this report though but don't know what it does for the Govt's plan to make work pay.

Yes, Jake, "Make Work Pay" is possibly a promise that IDS and Cameron will never keep Dont think they are being candid about workfare and other schemes; but they are paying millions for companies to work the schemes.

My partners on a low income wage i am out of work this is not by choice i have been looking for work but they are no jobs availabile you have to be Qualified and if you want to have a career you have to pay obsene amounts just to get qualified.which is impossible when your on one wage just other 200 a week paying rent full council tax food bills water bills no moneyfor luxeryof cause heaven forbid the goverment if you were to go out and enjoy yourself living beyond your means and all that while there having the time of there life,s on are money. yhe goverment put things in place and they have no real clue whats going on and how it,s going to workwhile we all suffer. Is it surprising that people are in poverty are the one,s that work no payrise and expected to pay full for everything it dosent surprise me. all Daivid Cameron want,s to do is keep every body under and the rich richer. he should never have got in for goverment.

i,m interested to know how the universal payments going to work.

Times are hard mums, working around children with little or no income. News is always bad and leaves us hopeless. Maybe this is a good time to draw together and brainstorm and think of ideas to work from home around family needs, enjoying the flexibility and enabling ourselves to gain control of our lives once again. I know that there are many scums out there but there is also great opportunities in which we can tap into, with lots of support and free online training. Let's begin now and create a synergy that will bring about positive energy to all. Food for thought.
