Seriously. Hindley - Brady - Shipman - Cregan. It beggars belief.

Cregan was from Droylsden, wan't he?

UrIndoors · 20/09/2012 23:53

Although that's not to say I'm averse to a bit of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychogeography

SwedishEdith · 20/09/2012 23:54

Cregan was from Droylsden, wan't he?*

Now we're drilling down lol

Manicmaria · 20/09/2012 23:57

OK, wherever they may originate from. My point being is that I can think of no other part of the UK where there was such a concentrated area of notorious killers.

Whichever part of London the Krays were from, there, I can think of that. Krayland

jack the ripper

SwedishEdith · 21/09/2012 00:07

Who else what? I'm not a crime expert. Only on thread as displacement activity. Maybe I need to Hyde it

UrIndoors · 21/09/2012 00:08

From a Marxist perspective, wherever you find an urban conglomeration whose existence depends upon capital, you'll find abnormal human behaviour.

UrIndoors · 21/09/2012 00:09

Back to my shitty areas principle.

Heavensmells · 21/09/2012 00:16

Nah, you're on the wrong track with the shitty areas principle. Like I said before all from different areas, all with different backgrounds and 'professions ' and different motives for murder. Complete coincidence that it happened in that one area.

Extrospektiv · 21/09/2012 12:06

devon is worse for nonces

and they make me more upset than murderers.

AlanMoore · 21/09/2012 12:17

Bradford/bingley/cottingley, spawned the black panther, Peter sutcliffe and mark rowntree. Or Quegs school in wakey, Stephen griffiths and the acid bath murderer (?Haigh?)

titchy · 21/09/2012 12:22

Oh what a load of nonsense.

Hindley and Brady were partners in their crimes. So only 1 lot of crimes. Shipman was 40 years after Hinfley and Brady. Cregan is just a nasty piece of work who seems to think himself a hitman. He is NOT a mass murderer in the sense that the others were.

So effectively two episodes of mass murder in the same area 40 years apart. Not exactly linked are they?

If you look at any poor, urban area there will be a high incidence of crime.

Take London and knife crime against young black males. Now that's an issue that needs dealing with.

There are a lot of nicer areas round there, just down the road from a not so nice area. I lived in Mottram until I was 2 in a very suburban then modern little cul de sac next to a country lane - can be rather pretty. Apparently though there is evidence that Manchester gangs are moving to more outlying areas whereas they used to be more concentrated in the centre.

But also putting it into context, the moors murders were like, 45+ years ago, Harold Shipman was like, 15 years ago and now this.

It's quite a heavily populated area too so it's unsurprising there would be a few nasty types.
