Guidelines revised in favour of Circumcision

The AAP, the leading U.S. pediatric group, now says the health benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks and that families who choose to circumcise their baby boys should be able to.

"The tone of the policy certainly shifts somewhat in favor of circumcision in that it recognizes that there are clear medical benefits that outweigh the risks of the procedure, and that those benefits are sufficient to justify coverage by insurance," said Dr. Douglas Diekema

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology are backing up the AAP.

Interesting contrast to the German position that was in the papers not long ago.

They can't seriously be saying that uncircumcised boys are at a medical disadvantage? What happened to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'?

So mutilation of children is condoned. How bizarre that only american doctors who are the ones who have a vested interest in making money out of patients would decide an unnecessary mutilation is needed to avoid offending the jewish community.

Shame the same group could not see the benefit of providing healthcare to the tens of millions of uninsured in the USA and getting their healthcare out of a third world system. Oh yeah but there was no profit in that for them. USA doctors sending people for tests and operations that are unnecessary is not a new phenomena is it?

there was another thread on this last night.

they still dont recomend it as standard but they re trying to get it covered by insurance providers, i wonder why...

NovackNGood · 29/08/2012 14:57

Hmm maybe because of the millions of Jewish patients they have that is a larger number than Jewish residents of Israel and the occupied territories.

NovackNGood · 29/08/2012 15:00

Lets face it thats 2 million mutilations a year they would miss out on coining it in for.

The Jewish pop in the US is 6.5m and 2.1% of the US pop according to wiki

How can 6.5m people produce 2m boys babies in a year. That is an amazing birthdate.

But of course the Joooos are behind everything.

I don't know about the politics or religious aspects - fart too ignorant - but I have to say that I will never, and have never, cut bits off my children that they were born with.

Plus the only experience I have of circumcision is in an ex partner who was very resentful that he'd been circumcised as a child, as it meant he couldn't feel as much during sex as he ought to be able to. According to him anyway.

Obviously there are places on the male and female body that can harbour bacteria and so on - but we can't pare ourselves down to smooth, unruffled shapes just to be free of certain diseases. You can't get rid of everything dangerous by cutting a few bits off. What about your insides - they are quite messy too. That's just called being human.

EdMcDunnough · 08/09/2012 09:51

Far. I meant to write far.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/09/2012 09:55

Male circumcision is culturally normal in the US (and Canada). Or at least it was, when I was growing up. I think, these days, about 50% of boys are snipped, so it's still pretty common, even outside the religious communities.

What Novack said.

Expect a lot more of this sort of nonsense with the reorganisation of the health services. People will be urging us to go in for all sorts of unnecessary procedures - like dentists giving your teeth a polish when all you wanted was a check up. Then charging you a tenner for it.

I can't wait to be told that having breast implants is actually better for you than staying with what you've been given by Mother Nature. It's more hygienic, don't you know, and it can even reduce your chances of getting cancer. Oh, and here's the research to prove it.
