I haven't clicked, but just wanted to remind folks that an arranged marriage is completely different from a forced one. It suits. The agenda of some people to pretend they are the same thing.

FranSanDisco · 19/08/2012 09:08

It's a good thing if he getting talked about more.

FellatioNelson · 19/08/2012 09:12

What KRITIQ said.

twinkerbell · 19/08/2012 09:15

I question anything in the Mail anyway ....but I do think we are just hearing about it alot more and yes there are some 'aranged' that work very well but the word 'forced' speaks for itself

Nancy66 · 19/08/2012 13:51

Why the warning? It's not kiddie porn.

epeesarepointythings · 19/08/2012 19:08

I know three people who have had arranged marriages. It's worked for two of them - they are very much in love. It has not worked at all well for the third, and she feels very trapped.

All three were arranged though, not forced.

giveitago · 20/08/2012 12:32

arranged marriages are different from that article.

'I can still see the horror that made me flee Pakistan - in the haunted eyes of girls raised HERE': Nadira Naipaul exposes arranged marriages and honour killings in the UK

An interesting article, written by a Muslim Pakistani woman who has seen and experienced it. But then you wouldn't know would you. You are like a group of children sticking your fingers in your ears singing "la la la la la! nothing to see here"
The DM is the second top selling daily paper in the UK and out sells the Guardian by a rate of ten to one.
Is it knowing that the vast majority of people you walk past every day diametrically disagree with your view of the world that makes you behave so childishly?

claig · 21/08/2012 22:56

'The DM is the second top selling daily paper in the UK and out sells the Guardian by a rate of ten to one.'

I thought it was more than that, but point taken.

KRITIQ · 21/08/2012 23:25

Childrenofthestones, one person above has already stated that she knows 3 people personally who have had arranged marriages. I have known many, many folks personally who have chosen arranged marriages. Why are you assuming that we are all ignorant because we don't accept an article in a newspaper as the gospel truth?

Arranged marriages just like "love" marriages can work or can break down. Women can be abused and/or feel trapped in marriages whether they were arranged by others or chosen for themselves.

I maintain that folks who conflate arranged marriages and forced marriages, particularly after the difference has been clearly explained, tend to do so because they have what imo is an unsavoury agenda.

Childrenofthestones · 22/08/2012 10:51

"Why are you assuming that we are all ignorant because we don't accept an article in a newspaper as the gospel truth?"

Because you or anyone else on here could telling the truth or lying through your teeth. We are online, on a forum.
Meanwhile Nadira Naipaul is a real woman writing an article that can be referenced for truth or lies.
The point I was trying to make (not very well) was how pathetic the "Its the DM so I'm not going to read it and yet I will pass comment on the article " attitude is, that has become more and more prevalent.
