awful Sad

really appalling - makes you distrust all the great teachers out there...Sad

those poor wee girls.

shockedandstunned · 11/03/2006 12:38

He taught me and I was also part of his recorder group in London - I found him creepy and didn't like having one-to-one tuition with him at school but he was very charismatic and I can see exactly how he got away with it for so long. I;m feeling very "there but for the grace of God" tbh Sad.

ive started another thread on this my dd was taught by him

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 16:36

but not in the 70s and 80's, trouble is they can only charge him for crimes they have know he committed but plenty more later on could have been abused that never came forward.

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 16:43

shockedandstunned, its funny, dd used to say he was creepy too and i had to see him on a few occassions and must admit i didnt like him.

shockedandstunned · 11/03/2006 16:48

I just hope this gets lots of publicity so that if there are any more victims out there, they can find some comfort from the news of his imprisonment.

OP posts:
spacecadet · 11/03/2006 17:07

im sure there must be plenty of victims who were too afraid to come forward.

yes dd used one of his own recorder books.
i remember when i went to the school to say i wasnt happy with him, the secretary raved about him and said he was an excellent teacher.

shockedandstunned · 11/03/2006 18:27

God I can't stop thinking about this. Going to his recorder group was a major part of my childhood - we played in the Schools Prom, the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabth Hall etc etc. We even did a tour of Yugoslavia. It's something I've always felt proud of but not now - it was all built on pain and suffering. His beautiful stepdaughter was in the group too - she was his major victim by the sound of it and has gone public about him. Poor woman Sad Sad.

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 19:17

shockedandstunned, have you spoken to anyone else about how you feel, its understandable that you will feel shocked,i think his step daughter spoke out first, im not sure. please dont let this spoil memories that you had of your childhood. you were not to know what was happening, keep on feeling proud of your acheivements in the recorder group. dont let this man spoil that.

WickedViperWitch · 11/03/2006 19:36

Shocked, this must be awful. You and spacecadet must both be feeling a very odd mixture of relief and a lot of other emotions.

busybusybee · 11/03/2006 19:51

Shock This is awful

What are the books he wrote called?

I think I bought two excellent ones by him only a month ago...........

It says they are by Gordon Davey (not Brian as in the origonal link)

But they were published by Davey Publications at 70 Butt lane, Milton Cambridge. Copyright - Brian Davey.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

They are excellent books too

spacecadet · 11/03/2006 19:56

My books are written by Gorden Davey, published by Davey publications and copyright Brian Davey.

As much as I am really shocked for everybody who has been affected by this horrible man, I am personally really pissed off because I love these books. The blurb on the back talks about more being written to teach the treble and bass recorders - I was about to try and buy those because I play recorders and tin whistles myself with my clients.

Really shocked and upset and how people can be so cruel and nasty to children :(

busybusybee · 11/03/2006 20:03

Those are the ones Sue W

shockedandstunned · 12/03/2006 10:47

This has shaken me - as parents we tend to worry about "stranger danger" and our children being plucked off the street if they so much as step out of the front door whereas it's so-called pillars of the community that we should be casting a closer eye over. I cannot emphasise enough how well-respected this man was - I;m sure half the problem was that no-one believed his victims when they spoke up - no Childline in those days Sad.

Please listen to your children carefully if they express any unhappiness over their treatment by any adult - however much you don't want to believe it's true.

omg - how awful. My best friend was taught by him in the early 80s - i knew there were lots of bad 'stories' about him, but thank god he's finally been caught.
